Lakers Win Season Opener

Lakers Win Season Opener

The Iowa Lakes opened their season by welcoming Northeastern from Sterling Colorado. It was evident that some nerves were on display as the Lakers started slowly and struggled to gain control in the game. As a team, Northeastern played a high-paced game, creating many chances and having the better of the play. Northeastern opened the scoring 27 minutes in with a driven shot into the upper corner of the goal. In the second half, the Lakers began connecting more passes and creating more chances. As Iowa Lakes began the second half with a point to make, Faith Martin scored a brilliant goal from an excellent pass from Maria Vilhena in the 59th minute. The Lakers scored their winning goal in the 72nd minute when Faith Martin drove a corner into Vilhena for the finish. This game showed Coach Cain's new team's character, and they will have much more to prove as the season progresses.
