Reivers Fly By Hawks

Norfolk, NE: The Reivers improved to 4-0-0 behind a brace from Marie Quentel.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  Despite the pressure from the host Hawks, the Reivers hit back through an unassited goal by Quentel. The team's high press paid dividends as Ririka Kamimura and Anna Hall's pressure made play predictable for Quentel, who chased down the Hawk centerback at the top of the 18, won the ball, and finished smartly to the on-rushing keeper's left. The Reivers would use their spped to find the eventual match winner in the 26th minute. On the counter, Paula Boza found Anna Hall in the middle of the field who found a streaking Rylie Jacobsen down the left side. The sophomore transfer dribbled at speed into the box and squeezed a finish near post to double the lead.

The Hawks would strike back in the 27th minute taking advantage of a bouncing ball and quick combination play to finish from 8 yards out. Despite a back and forth match in the midfield, the Reivers would put the game away in the 85th minute when Quentel received a touch pass from Boza inside the Hawk 18 in finished far post.

NOTES & NUMBERS: Quentel bagged her 3rd and 4th goals of the season while Jacobsen notched her first IW career goal along with the match winner. The Reivers open up 1-0 in conference play as it begins the defense of its conference championship from a year ago.

QUOTES: Head Coach Adam Sanchez: "Playing Northeast at their place is extremely difficult. It is always a tough test as the opponent is quality and the field conditions are foreign to us. Today was no different. The game was tight, but credit to our team press that initiated all 3 goals. Quentel and Jacobsen may steal the headlines, but full credit needs to go to the group as we needed players to step in and step up to get the job done. We'll happily take the win, but it wasn't easy."

UP NEXT: The Reivers host the RedTails from Hawkeye CC at the Reiver Athletic Complex on Tuesday, September 7th. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 pm. Match updates can be found on Twitter at @ReiverWSoccer.
