2025 Region 11 Championship Preview | Women's Wrestling
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - The seven ICCAC Women's Wrestling programs will gather at Iowa Western Community College this Saturday to participate in the first-ever regional championship event.
Unlike the men's side, the event is not a qualifying tournament as the NJCAA Womens' Wrestling National Championships are still an invitational. Despite that, teams will conduct a championship tournament.
This season, Iowa Western was the regular season dual champions going 6-0 versus the rest of the ICCAC. They picked up a one-point win over two-time reigning national champions and No. 1 ranked Indian Hills, 26-25 in Council Bluffs. The Warriors are likely the favorite this weekend again, but the Reivers, ranked No. 6, bested them in their showdown back on Nov. 20.
The Reivers have 10 wrestlers ranked in the NJCAA weight class poll released back on Jan. 27. Their highest ranking wrestlers are Mia Siqueiros (103) and Molly Sek (110) -- eached tagged as the No. 3 ranked wrestler in their respective class. Zoe Ortiz (131), Daeja Sundquist (138) and Ayana Fletcher (160) are all ranked fourth in their weight as well.
Indian Hills has 15 ranked wrestlers, only four of which that are entered to participate in the Region 11 Championships. Paola Rodriguez is the No. 1 in 180 and will compete. So will #6 at 180 Tahihya Wilson. Kennedi Washington is No. 7 at 235 and Alicia Perez, 103's #10 will also compete.
Two other teams are in the top 10 in the NJCAA poll, Iowa Central at No. 7 and NIACC at No. 10. The Tritons are led by Alexis Ross (138), Annabelle Petsinger (124) and Kammie Schanz (145). Ross is the top wrestler at 138 while Petsinger and Schanz are No. 2 and 3 respectively in their classes.
Gilmore and Schanz met in a battle of No. 1 & No. 2 in January where Gilmore got the better in a 12-0 Tech Fall victory. Those two may meet again this weekend at 145. Notably, Gilmore is the league's lone returning national champion from last season where she won at 155.
NIACC has two ranked wrestlers including No. 2 Valeria Smith at 235.
Rounding out the league, Iowa Lakes has four ranked wrestlers, Hawkeye has two and Ellsworth has one.
The Lakers Holly Garrett is No. 2 at 131 and the highest ranked ICCAC wrestler in the class.
This season, each team can enter up to three wrestlers per weight class with a maximum of 25 entrants. The top 13 finishers per team will count towards their team score. When two wrestlers from the same school wrestle one another, advanced point scoring will be used as opposed to match point scoring.
Action begins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Admission is $5 for adults and students. For those unable to attend, the event will be streamed on the ICCAC Sports Network.
