2024 National Tournament Recap | Division II Volleyball
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Two Region 11 teams were in action for the Division II NJCAA Volleyball Championships. Kirkwood and Iowa Central both represented Region 11 in the 2024 NJCAA Championship Tournament for the fifth consecutive season.
The No. 3 seeded Kirkwood Eagles finished their impressive season with a 36-8 record. After opening with a 3-1 victory over Carl Sandburg, the Eagles were swept for the first time this year by No. 6 Gulf Coast State in the quarterfinals. They rebounded in the lower bracket with a hard-fought win over No. 12 Grand Rapids, but concluded their season with a 3-1 loss to No. 2 Parkland.
Freshman outside hitter, Marissa Cahoy earned All-Tournament Team honors, totaling 42 kills, 20 digs and 9 blocks in the 15 sets played.
The Iowa Central Tritons capped their 2024-25 season at the National Tournament ending with a 1-2 record. As the No. 10 seed, the Tritons secured a first round bye but faced a tough 3-2 loss to No. 7 Johnson County (Kan.) in their opening match. The Tritons led 2-1 before dropping the final two sets 25-19 and 15-13.
They bounced back with a 3-1 victory over No. 15 Mesa (Ariz.) in the consolation bracket before ultimately falling to No. 8 Illinois Central in another 3-2 result.
