2023 NJCAA All-Americans | Volleyball
The NJCAA Volleyball All-Americans were announced on Tuesday, with six ICCAC student-athletes being recognized on this season's Division I & Division II lists.
Indian Hills earned two All-Americans this season in outside hitters Kinga Michalska and Sara Van Gisteren.
Michalska had a huge season for the Warriors, leading them to a second-straight NJCAA National Tournament appearance. Michalska, the ICCAC Player of the Year, was a First Team All-American this season, and ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA in kills with 581 and was #5 in kills per set at 3.98. She was 17th in the country in hitting percentage at .315 and was third in the nation in points with 638.5 in 42 matches.
She was named to the NJCAA All-Tournament team as well for the ninth-place Warriors.
Van Gisteren complimented Michalska offensively for Indian Hills this season. A Second Team selection, Van Gisteren ended her year with 453 kills, good for 12th most in the NJCAA. She was top 10 in points with 555.5, which was aided by her serving ability. The freshman was eight in the country in serving aces with 74 in 40 matches.
From Division II, four players were named on the 2023 list after three of the league's 12 teams earned spots in the National Tournament.
Iowa Central had two players named All-Americans in First Team selection Mercedes Madlock and Honorable Mention selection Noêmia Chiacchio.
Madlock was the ICCAC Player of the Year after an outstanding season setting for the Tritons. She ended the season second in total assists with 1464 and averaged 10.17 per set, eighth-most in Division II. She was named to the NJCAA All-Tournament team as well.
Chiacchio was the team's top hitter and the best hitter in the ICCAC this season. She led the league with 534 kills and kills per set at 3.73. She was seventh in the country in total kills. Chiacchio was also the nation's best server. She had a nation-high 121 aces in 41 matches.
DMACC, the league's runner-up, placed Emma Flathers on Second Team All-American. She was another of the league's top setters, ending the year with 1425 assists, fourth-most in the NJCAA. She averaged 9.76 per set, 13th highest in the country.
Flathers is the Bear's first All-American selection since Amber Dilsaver was a Honorable Mention selection back in 2019.
Lily Van Severen of Kirkwood rounded out the ICCAC selections in 2023. The ICCAC Freshman of the Year was a defensive guru. The libero had 636 digs averaging 4.33 per set. The Eagles reached their sixth straight National Tournament this season.
