Lalane, Michel Earn Top ICCAC Honors in 2022
The ICCAC announced the 2022 Division I Volleyball All-Region team on Monday -- highlighted by Indian Hills who has had a fantastic season to date.
Four Warriors were named to the All-Region Team -- led by setter Hennesys Lalane. The sophomore leads the NJCAA in assists this season with 1522. She is also No. 6 in assists per set at 10.50.
Lalane has a nasty serve as well and is second in the country in aces with 103. Rounding out her offensive numbers, she has added 135 kills and a hit percentage of .371.
Defensively, Lalane is top 50 in blocks with 91 total -- and has 258 digs on the season.
Leading Indian Hills to a Midwest A District Championship and their first NJCAA National Tournament appearance for the first time in three years -- Lalane was named the ICCAC Division I Player of the Year.
Joining Lalane from Indian Hills are outside hitters Jenna Valleé, and middle blockers Erica Calderon and Jarolin de los Santos.
Valleé is the team's top scorer with 360 kills and 459 points, both top 25 in the nation. Calderon and de los Santos create a wall like no other in NJCAA volleyball. The two make up for two of the top three in the country in total blocks, de los Santos with 194 (1st) and Calderon with 168 (3rd). Combined they average 3 blocks per set.
Iowa Western landed two players on the All-Region list. The Reivers, who ended their season as the Midwest B runner up, placed Madisyn Havermann and Duru Ozkan on the 2022 list. Havermann, a middle blocker, went from only playing nine sets her freshman season to every match this season. The sophomore from Council Bluffs was fourth on the team in kills with 216 -- and the team's leading blocker at 121, 15th most in the country.
Ozkan, a defensive specialist, had 464 digs this season -- averaging 3.83 per set.
Rounding out the list was Abby Redmond of Marshalltown. The right-side hitter averaged 1.64 kills and 4.55 digs per set.
Lyndsey Michel of Indian Hills was named ICCAC Coach of the Year. Michel led the Warriors to their second NJCAA title appearance in the last four years, including a No. 2 ranking and a 40-2 record.
At one point, IHCC rattled off 19 straight wins and are currently on a 14-match winning streak heading in the tournament. Their only losses this season came to Salt Lake and Missouri-West Plains, both top 10 teams in the country.
