Game of the Week (#20 DMACC @ Southeastern)
Southeastern has not had the season they wanted in conference play this season, but they made a statement on Wednesday night that you may not want to run into them in the postseason. Now winners of three of their last four ICCAC matches, the Blackhawks hosted #20 DMACC, a team that has knocked off a number of ranked teams this season, and came out on top 3-1.
SCC took the first two sets to give them a huge advantage -- 25-20 and 25-22. DMACC rallied back to win set three and extend the match, 25-17. But the effort it took in the third set appeared to ignite the Blackhawks who handled set four in convincing fashion, taking it 25-16.
It was a big night offensively for a number of Southeastern players. Lamecia Schaerrer dished out 54 assists -- second-most in ICCAC conference play this season. Raevyn Russell continued to pound the ball as one of the top hitters in the league. She had 26 kills -- the most in Week 8 and fourth-most this season in ICCAC play. Lillian Simpson had 15 kills while Brianna Hernandez had 10.
Ayaka Yoshioka led the defense with 31 digs, while Russell (14), Schaerrer (16) and Simpson (18) each had double digit dig performances.
For DMACC, Keyna Prescott had 25 digs. Zophi Henricks had 10 kills, Eden Wilson had 8. Sara Hansen had 31 assists.
Heading into the final week of the season, each team has a chance to improve their seeding.
Southeastern will host #11 Hawkeye with another upset on their mind. DMACC hosts Ellsworth.
