Game of the Week (#7 Iowa Central @ Iowa Lakes)
#7 Iowa Central took down Iowa Lakes in four sets last night -- but Iowa Lakes continued to show improvement in the 2022 season. The Lakers came into the night with a 4-2 conference record -- already exceeding their highest win total since 2015. The Iowa Central handled business in the first two sets, winning the first 25-20, and edging out a 25-23 win in set two. Iowa Lakes rallied to a 25-21 set win in set three, their first set win against the Tritons since 2017.
Iowa Central shut the door, dominating the fourth set 25-13.
The Tritons were led by power hitter Katilyn Steffes who had 25 kills and 19 digs, and Mercedes Madlock who had 45 assists and 10 digs. Jori Hajek had 11 kills and 19 digs to back up Steffes -- Brooke Dobson had eight kills.
Leah Jolly had a breakout performance at the net with nine block assists.
For Iowa Lakes, Jasmine Shriver led the Lakers with 13 kills and Jaden Gipfert had 12. Defensively Kylie Kline had 26 digs and Grace Kilian had 16. Dinia Ponce-Diaz had 32 assists.
Iowa Central hosts NIACC before their end of season showdown with Kirkwood on Oct. 27.
The Lakers host the Eagles this week.
