2025 Spring Preview | Women's Outdoor Track and Field
As the 2025 Outdoor Track and Field season approaches, Iowa Western stands out as the clear favorite. The Reivers are riding high after securing their fourth Region 11 Indoor title in the past five years, capping it off with back-to-back National Indoor Championships. With elite athletes like Juliana Sakat and Mercy Honesty leading a deep and talented roster, Iowa Western is well-positioned to contend for the Outdoor Track & Field Championship as well.
Challenging them at the top, Iowa Central and Indian Hills are both expected to finish among the top three in the conference. The Tritons narrowly fell short to Iowa Western in last season's Region 11 Championships, but they return several individual champions along with a strong group of freshmen. At this year's Region 11 Indoor Championships, Iowa Central finished just 10 points behind the Reivers, signaling a tight battle ahead.
Indian Hills rounds out the projected top three and enters the season with momentum from a solid indoor campaign. Sprinter Dymonde Nave delivered an impressive performance at the Indoor National Championships, finishing as the runner-up in the 60 Meter Hurdles. While the Warriors have a competitive squad, overcoming the two teams ahead of them in the region will be a significant challenge.
Hawkeye, NIACC, and Southeastern are also teams to watch, each boasting standout athletes. Hawkeye's Halima Biggs claimed victory in the High Jump at the Region 11 Indoor Championships, while Southeastern and NIACC showcased strong relay teams. Southeastern secured a third-place finish in the 4x800 Meter Relay at the Region Championships, and NIACC did the same in the Distance Medley Relay.
At the bottom of the preseason conference poll, Southwestern and DMACC enter the season with different goals. Southwestern faces a rebuilding year with only two athletes on the roster, focusing on individual development. Meanwhile, DMACC will debut its Outdoor Track and Field program in 2025, with no immediate expectations but plenty of potential for growth.
With the season set to unfold, all eyes will be on Iowa Western to see if they can continue their dominance or if challengers like Iowa Central and Indian Hills can shake up the standings.
