2024 Women's NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship Recap
MONROE, La. -- At the 2024 NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, there was just one National Champion from the ICCAC.
Mercy Honesty from Iowa Western won the Triple Jump and earned herself First Team All-American status. Iowa Western was the lone ICCAC representative to end in the top-5, finishing fourth in the final team scores. Following them included Indian Hills in 15th place and Iowa Central who tied for 18.
Mercey Honesty was First Team All-American in the Triple Jump. after her mark of 12.68 The National Champion from Iowa Western won by a total of 0.41 meters. Honesty was the ICCAC's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year and won the same event at the Indoor National Championships earlier this season.
Another Reiver, Kaylia Kelly was a Second Team All-American in the 200 Meter Dash. Her time was recorded at 23.28 seconds, just 0.31 away from winning the race and becoming a champion.
A similar ending happened to Dymonde Nave of Indian Hills. In the 100 Meter Hurdles, her final time was 13.87 which was 0.35 seconds behind the winning time. However, she still earned Second Team All-American status.
For relay events, Indian Hills finished third in the 4x100 Meter Relay and Iowa Western placed second in the 4x400 Meter Relay. No ICCAC school was able to capture a National Championship in any of the three relay races.
In the field events, it was Iowa Western who was the only ICCAC school to recieve any kind of all-american status.
Natalie Albert of Iowa Western placed second in the Hammer Throw with a measurement of 51.06. She was a Second Team All-American and fell 4.34 meters behind first place.
Calleisha Chance and Sarai Simpson were Honorable Mention All-Americans in their events, the Long Jump and the Shot Put. Chance's final measurement in the Long Jump came out to 6.04 meters, which earned her third. Simpson's mark in Shot Put was 14.47 meters, which was just 0.83 meters behind the next competitor.
