Reiver Women Sweep Track Titles with Outdoor First
The Iowa Western Reivers won their first ever NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship last weekend in Hutchinson, Kan. Scoring 117 team points, the Reivers held off second place New Mexico JC by 19.
Leading the way for Iowa Western were five national champions in seven events. ICCAC Outdoor Female Track Athlete of the Year Hilda Chebet lived up to her abilities by winning the 1,500 meter, 5,000 meter and 10,000 meter runs. Alliyah McNeil won the high jump, and was the runner up in the long jump behind her teammate, Miracle Ailes. Victory George won the triple jump to complete the sweep for Iowa Western in the jumping events. Lastly, Antonia Sealy won the heptathlon.
The Reivers boasted two other All-Americans -- Nickisha Pryce in the 400 meter and Mercy Biwott in the 5,000 meter.
Iowa Western scored in 16 of the 22 events overall, continuing their dominant trend in women's track & field. They have won the last three Outdoor Regionals, and the last two Indoor National titles.
