2022 All-Region Performers Named for Division II Women's Soccer
Division II Women's Soccer All-Region selections were released on Wednesday with 13 players earning First Team recognition in 2022.
Northeast placed four players on the First Team after dominating the ICCAC this season. The Hawks, who have now reached NJCAA Tournament the last three seasons, are 19-2-1 overall and 9-1 in conference play. This season, they boasted the highest scoring offense in the country scoring 138 goals and averaging 6.27 goals per game.
Leading the offensive efforts this season is Taryn O'Brien, the ICCAC Division II Player of the Year. O'Brien is second in the country with 31 goals this season and 79 points. She had four four-goal games this season and a total of five hat tricks. In a five-game stretch this year, she scored 17 goals.
Not far behind O'Brien is fellow forward -- freshman Aidyn Woodall. Woodall is also among the top scorers in the country -- coming in at No. 6 in goals (24), No. 1 in assists (25), and No. 3 in points (73).
Mackenzee Stokes, the 2022 Region 11 Tournament MVP was a First Team pick for the Hawks as well -- she has 14 goals and 13 assists this season -- and is top 20 in the NJCAA in points with 41.
Not only did the Hawks score, but they also played defense. As a team they are seventh in the country in goals-allowed per game at .54. Bolstering the Hawks' defense is Erica Derby, the fourth selection for the Hawks on First Team.
Chad Miller, Northeast's head coach, was named Coach of the Year for the third straight season. The Hawks earned a No. 9 seed in the upcoming NJCAA National Tournament.
The only team to beat Northeast in conference play this season was Hawkeye -- who had three players. Jess Graham, Jacque Kuester and Grace Heddens represented the RedTails on the First Team.
Heddens was the team's top scorer this year with 10 goals and two assists. Kuester had eight goals and three assists -- while Graham had two assists from her defensive position.
NIACC and Southeastern each had two players named to the First Team list. Jette Busche of the Trojans was one of two players that was on last year's First Team. A playmaker, Busche netted five goals and had the most assists of any non-Northeast player with 12.
Brianna Marchand joined Busche after scoring 10 goals, one of seven players in ICCAC Division II Women's Soccer to hit double digit goals this season.
Southeastern's Non Ishida was the other player besides Busche to return this season to the First Team. Ishida had five goals and four assists. Her teammate Jemma White, the team's top scorer, joined her.
Capping off the 2022 First Team was Scott's goalkeeper Sydney Zabel, and Marshalltown's Emma Long. Long had eight goals in the team's first year of competition.
