Division I Women's Soccer All-Region Teams Announced
The ICCAC announced the 2022 Division I Women's Soccer All-Region and special awards on Wednesday.
Iowa Western received both special honors of the season by picking up Coach and Player of the Year recognition. Freshman forward Hanna Schimmer was tagged as the 2022 ICCAC Division I Women's Soccer Player of the Year after leading the Iowa Western Reivers to their fourth-straight National Tournament appearance. In 19 games Schimmer scored 17 goals and added 12 assists for a total of 39 points. She is 13th in the country in goals, 12th in assists and 9th in points.
Adam Sanchez picked up 2022 Coach of the Year honors for the fourth time in his career since the award's existence dating back to 2017. The Reivers are the No. 9 seed in the NJCAA Tournament and won their seventh-consecutive Region 11 championship this season. The Reivers went a perfect 6-0 in conference, have an overall record of 15-3-1 and have won their last 14 matches.
As for the First Team list -- a trio of Iowa Western players joined Schimmer as 2022 selections. Marta Llopis, another freshman forward, came on strong after missing the first part of the season. Llopis leads the team in goals with 19 and is second on the team in points with 54.
Lou Brossault, a midfielder, and Pilar Casas were also selected to the First Team.
Indian Hills received three players on the First Team -- most notably Abbie Bailey, their talented defensemen. She returns to the First Team for the second year in a row. She had five goals and three assists this season. Fellow Warrior defensemen Mifumi Sasanuma was also named to the First Team.
Dare Kroeten was one of the offensive leaders for Indian Hills this season scoring eight goals and was a First Team pick as a sophomore.
Iowa Lakes earned two players on the First Team in Alexis Vasquez and Paloa Then. Vasquez was the only player besides Bailey to be back on this list from last year -- The Lakers' top scorer had 17 goals and 13 assists this season. She became the first three-time First Team All-Region selection in ICCAC Women's Soccer as well.
Iowa Central polished off the ground with two selections as well -- Lauren Chetty and Abigail Jensen. Chetty had eight goals and five assists -- Jensen had four goals and eight assists.
All-Region selections are determined by the coaches. Each school earns an allotment based on their regular season finish in the conference standings.
