Division I Women's Soccer Tags Region's Best
The ICCAC Division I Women's Soccer has released the All-Region selections following the 2021 fall season. Selections were based on the team's overall record within the standings.
After sharing the regular season title for the 16th straight year, the Iowa Western Reivers also took the Region XI Championship over Indian Hills in a wild finish, 4-3. The Reivers earned four spots for their players on the All-Region team. Headlined by Paula Boza, she second in the ICCAC for total goals with 15, along with being second in assists (15) and points (45). Boza is top seven in the NJCAA for points, shot percentage, and assists and a huge reason why the Reivers were able to knock off Lewis & Clark in the Central District Championship and return to another NJCAA National Tournament.
Teammates Marie Quentel, Anna Hall, and Mayu Inokawa joined Boza on First Team All-Region.
Quentel, a freshman forward, is second on the Reiver's team in goals and tied in the top 5 in the ICCAC with 10 on the season. She has also added nine assists to her stat sheet.
Hall has found the back of the net four times on the season, but has passed it off for assists eight times landing her tied at No. 6 sixth ICCAC in that category.
Inokawa, the third Iowa Western midfielder on the list, had two goals and an assist this year, serving in a more defensive role.
The Indian Hills Warriors have three players to help fill out the All-Region team. Bailey Wiemann, 2021 Division I Women's Soccer Player of the Year, was a no-doubter First Team selection. Wiemann leads the ICCAC in goals (25), total points (65), and tied for first in assists (15). She is second in the NJCAA in points and goals, along with taking third in assists. Wiemann had two hat tricks this season and nine multi-goal games including two goals in the Region XI Championship. It is her second conference player of the year award after earning it in the spring as well.
In two seasons at Indian Hills, Wiemann has 36 goals and 25 assists in 36 games played.
Teammate Risa Ogasawara joins Wiemann with First Team honors. Ogasawara complimented the Warriors scoring threat and ranks third in the ICCAC in goals (15), assists (10), and points (40). She nearly breaks the top 10 spot in the NJCAA in each of those categories as well. Ogasawara was also perfect in penalty kicks, going 4-4 on the season leads the NJCAA.
Abbie Bailey rounds out the Warriors 2021 selections. Bailey scored three goals on the season, two of which were game-winning goals.
Iowa Central and Iowa Lakes both added two players in the list.
Iowa Central's Jeannette Scholz had three goals and four assists while Triton teammate Poppy Goffin was the other selection from her defensive spot.
To finish the All-Region team was Iowa Lakes' Alexis Vasquez who scored both of her goals on the season in the last two games. Laura Cardenas rounded out the list of 11 First Team selections.
Lastly, Adam Sanchez and Anthony Longo split the Coach of the Year vote and were named co-Coach of the Year.
Sanchez and the Reivers qualified for their fifth national tournament in the last six years and are the No. 4 seed this season. The Reivers have a record of 16-1 heading into the event.
Longo, Indian Hills' manager, led the Warriors to an 18-2 record that included the lone-defeat of Iowa Western this season. They came up just short of a second consecutive national tournament bid and were 12th in the final NJCAA poll.
