Division II Women's Soccer All-Region Selections Released
The ICCAC Division II Women's Soccer coaches selected the spring 2021 All-Region performers for the spring season, which were announced on Wednesday.
Northeast, the Region XI regular season and Region XI Champions received the most selections including four on First Team. The Hawks' touted sophomore forward Naomi Pedroza received a First Team selection and was voted as the Division II Player of the Year. Pedroza has netted 15 goals to date with the national tournament pending. That number leads all ICCAC players in both Division I and Division II. During the middle of the year, she had four of five games where she score two goals or more, including a hat trick against Hawkeye on April 27.
She also added 10 assists to her total and leads the conference in points with 40. Seven of her goals were game winners.
Joining her on First Team from Northeast are her sister, Sara Pedroza, along with Jessica Clinton and Mackenzie Byrnes.
Sara Pedroza complimented her older sister with seven goals, second-most on the team and added two assists.
Clinton was a staple on defense for a Northeast team that allowed 13 goals in 16 games and nine shutouts.
Chad Miller led Northeast to a regional tournament championship after winning the regular season. The Hawks with a record 12-3-1 advanced to the NJCAA National Tournament and with that, Miller was voted the Division II Coach of the Year.
Instrumental in those low goal numbers were Byrnes, the Hawk's goalkeeper. Brynes has earned 12 wins, which leads the NJCAA Division II ranks. She has 51 saves and a .81 goals-against average. All of the team's nine shutouts have come with her in goal.
Hawkeye placed three members on First Team All-Region in the spring of 2021 after a runner up finish in both the regular season standings and the Region XI Tournament.
Lauren Wagner led the RedTails in scoring, tallying nine goals and four assists for 22 points. She was joined by sophomores Faith Cullen-Cooper and Chalrotte Chalder. Both midfielders were the team's other two top scorers this season. Cullen-Cooper had five goals and tied the team leader in assists with five while Chalder had seven goals, second-most for the RedTails.
NIACC and Southeastern each placed two players on the First Team after finishing in the middle of the pack.
Taylor Ackerman led the Blackhawks in scoring with seven goals and two assists, with Isabell Hase right behind with six goals and two assists.
NIACC's top scorer Celine Witt scored five goals and one assist, and her teammate Kailah Thompson had four goals and one assist.
The 13 First Team members were rounded out by one selection each from Scott, Madison Gordon, and Dakota County, Alissa Merrick.
