ICCAC Women's Soccer Recognizes Region's Best in 2018
Iowa Western's Chavez wins Conference Player of the Year while Adam Sanchez recognized as Coach of the Year.
The 2018 Women's Soccer All-Region teams were announced this afternoon.
Iowa Western capped off a perfect conference season winning all nine games this season. With that, the Reivers earned four selections to the First Team All-Region.
Sophomore forward Laura Chavez was fantastic for the Reivers this season and was recognized as the 2018 Player of the Year. The former member of the U17 Colombian National team scored 12 goals in ICCAC play this season and was instrumental to the high-powered Revier offense form.
Freshman forward Kauany Sousa made an appearance on the First Team in her first season at Iowa Western. Sousa scored 23 goals in ICCAC play, with her best mark coming against Scott, where she scored six goals in one game.
Sophomore defender Veronica Herrera was a defensive force for the Reivers this year and was a big part of their success this season. The Venezuelan native also scored five goals in conference play as well. Complimenting Herrera on the defensive end was goalkeeper Whitney Dockweiler. Dockweiler finished the season with a record of 13-2, with 12 shutouts.
Iowa Central took second place in the ICCAC in 2018. Their finish earned them three selections to the First Team All-Region squad.
Sophomore right wing Julia De Oliveira had a great year for the Tritons, scoring 10 goals in conference play to go along with nine assists. Freshman Center Bruna Moureira earned First Team All-Region in her first season at Iowa Central after a stellar year for the Tritons. Scoring eight goals and dishing out seven assists, she was a huge factor in the Tritons success.
Northeast took third place this season in ICCAC play, which gave them selections to the First Team.
Since 2016 when their program began, the Hawks have improved on their finish in each season (2016: 6th, 2017: 4th). Ellie Gess and Emma Weaver had the best seasons for Northeast in 2018, guiding them to their success. Gess had five goals and assist in nine conference games, while Weaver was a formidable defensive presence for the Hawks.
Indian Hills finished fourth in the ICCAC in 2018. Their finish earns them two spots on the First-Team.
Freshman forward Emily Murphy was incredible this season. Finishing with 18 goals in conference play (37 overall), and 10 assists for the Warriors. She was a scoring machine for Indian Hills, breaking a school record for most goals in a season.
Additionally, sophomore forward Emma Rosner had a great year for Indian Hills, scoring 11 goals and dishing out six assists in ICCAC play.
