Lady RedTails Beat Iowa Central 3-2 In Exciting Fashion
WATERLOO- The Hawkeye RedTails Women's Soccer team took down conference opponent, Iowa Central, 3-2 in regulation last night to extend their record to 2-0 on the season. Highlights of the night came from Jovanna Suarez scoring two goals, and Allison Keitel scoring one goal on the night. Goalkeeper Alexis Trombley also had seven saves on the night.
The teams were evenly matched from the beginning, making it easy to see that this was going to be a nail biting ninety minutes of soccer. #20 Jovanna Suarez broke the gridlock in the 17th minute with her seventh goal of the season on an assist from Allison Keitel to put the RedTails up 1-0. Not long after, #10 of Iowa Central, Nara Da Costa, slid one past goalkeeper, Alexis Trombley, to tie the game back up 1-1 in the 25th. The match would stay tied 1-1 going into halftime.
The teams came back out firing in the second half showing no signs of fatigue. It was #1 Allison Keitel this time who broke the tie on an assist from Jovanna Suarez to put the RedTails up 2-1 in the 50th minute. To Iowa Central's credit, there was no giving up from their team as #11 Bruna Moureira tied the game back up in the 78th minute on an assist from #21 Alicia Lovan. With only twelve minutes left in the game, both teams were pressing hard to make the winning goal. It was non other than Jovanna Suarez who took it down the field solo to strike one into the top right of the net to put the RedTails up 3-2 in the 85th minute. Iowa Central pressed hard in the last five minutes and continued to keep the play on the RedTails half of the field. Great defensive play from the RedTail defenders helped close the game out in the final seconds on a blocked free kick from Iowa Central.
The Lady RedTails look to extend their two game streak against Waubonsee Community College this coming Saturday (9/2/17) in Sugar Grove, IL.
