ICCAC WINTER PREVIEW | WRESTLING

ICCAC WINTER PREVIEW | WRESTLING

The ICCAC Wrestling schools take to the mat this weekend to kick off the 2021-22 season. For the seventh year in a row, the teams will meet in Council Bluffs in early March to determine the NJCAA National Champions.

The second season with six teams, each team will dual each other once, and will be doubled up with an opponent twice for a total of six duals deciding the ICCAC standings. Last season, Indian Hills and Iowa Western tied atop the standings at 5-1.

The Warriors took home the Central District Championship in their first year of competition and are ranked the highest of the group at No. 5 in the NJCAA preseason poll. The District goes through Ottumwa as they will host this year's event on Feb. 13.

Iowa Central, picked by the ICCAC coaches to win the District in the preseason poll, had the best performance at the NJCAA Championships, placing four wrestlers in the finals and finishing third overall. The Tritons are ranked No. 10 in the preseason NJCAA poll.

NIACC is the only team with a returning National Champion. 165-pound NJCAA Wrestler of the Year Christian Minto returns for a third-year and title defense in Mason City.

Iowa Lakes and Ellsworth round out the group. Both ranked in the top 20, they will look to make improvements throughout the year as the Lakers have a new head coach and the Panthers have a very young roster.
