Crosby, Minto Named Co-Wrestlers of the Year
The ICCAC Wrestling Coaches voted this week for the 2021 ICCAC Wrestler and Coach of the Year, following the NJCAA National Championships.
Two wrestlers were tagged with Wrestler of the Year; NIACC's 165-pound National Champion, Christian Minto, and Iowa Western's 157-pounder Isaiah Crosby.
Minto, the 2020 ICCAC Wrestler of the Year, won the 165-pound championship, dominating his way through the NJCAA Championships. Hardly in doubt, Minto, the 165-pound NJCAA runner-up as a freshman, won by fall, major decision, and three other decisions by four points or more. He defeated Iowa Central's Keaton Geerts 13-8 to wrap up the 2021 title.
He finished his 2021 season unblemished with a record of 13-0 and moved his career mark to 35-1.
Crobsy, who handed Minto his only career loss last year in the 2020 NJCAA 165-pound Championship, transitioned to the 157-pound class this season. He, too, dominated his way to a 2021 crown with two tech falls and two major decisions. His closest match came in a 3-1 decision over Chinges Tsermaa of Northwest Kansas Tech. Crosby went 11-0 this season, and ended his junior college career with two individual championships at 157 & 165.
He helped lead the Reivers to a ninth place team finish at 2021 NJCAA Championships.
Luke Moffitt was voted as the 2021 ICCAC Coach of the Year. The Tritons finished third at the NJCAA Championships this season, the highest of the six ICCAC schools. Iowa Central had five NJCAA All-Americans including 174-pound champion, Jose Rodriguez. In addition to Rodriguez, the Tritons had three runners up at 141 (Bret Minor), 165 (Geerts), and 285 (Jorden Pryor).
Their third place finish gave Moffitt and the Tritons their 12th top-3 finish in 17 seasons under his lead. The Tritons have won seven national titles under Moffitt.
