North Central District Championships Moved to March 7
The NJCAA North Central District Wrestling Championship has been moved from Saturday, April 10 to Sunday, March 7.
Iowa Western will host the annual regional event that is designed to determine which wrestlers qualify for the NJCAA Championships. However, with numerous wrestling schools across the country opting out of the Spring 2021 wrestling season, the NJCAA Wresting Committee voted to make the NJCAA Wrestling Championships an open tournament. Each institution will be allowed to enter 10 wrestlers, one per weight class, to compete at the National Tournament.
The North Central District Championship will still crown team and individual champions this season. The event was moved up earlier in calendar to give the athletes, with already limited competition opportunities, another chance to compete but also afford a gap between the NJCAA Championships to avoid any potential COVID issues.
Last year in Estherville, Iowa Western won their first ever District Championship, beating out runner-up Ellsworth and dethroning Iowa Central from winning their seventh-straight title.
