Iowa Central third at NWCA Duals

Iowa Central went 2-1 on the weekend to earn the bonze. Tristan Bundy (125) and Devin Geoghegan (157) led the Tritons with wins in each of the three duals. Kenan Jackson (174), Brandon Bradney (197) and Chris Ballard (285) each won twice. Bundy, Bradney and Ballard each recorded two falls on the weekend.

Iowa Central opened competition on Saturday against No. 14 Neosho with an easy 30-18 win. The Tritons' two open weights were not a factor in the match as Neosho forfeited the first three weights. The Tritons received bonus points from Dillon Geoghegan (165), Bradney and Ballard who each recorded a fall in the match.

Sunday's opener was a tough draw for the Tritons as No. 6 Colby recorded bonus points at five weights en route to a 36-9 win. Tristan Bundy recorded a fall for Iowa Central and Devin Geoghegan won his match at 157, 7-2.

The loss ended Iowa Central's recent dominance at the event at five straight titles. However, the Tritons still had a chance to get on the medal stand with a win over No. 4 Niagara. Despite the two open weights Iowa Central proved why it is still a dangerous team. Iowa Central pounded Niagara 27-17 to take home third place.

"It was a great win for us," said head coach Luke Moffitt. "With the open weights we didn't really know what to expect, but the last dual of the day showed what kind of toughness we've got. Hopefully this gets us going into the second part of our season."

Bundy, Bradney and Ballard sparked the Iowa Central win as each recorded falls. Iowa Central was victories in all but two weight classes it had filled in the dual.

Second-ranked Labette dropped Colby 39-3 in the championship round to win the title. Region XI member Iowa Lakes took seventh.

Iowa Central is back in action again on Saturday when it heads to Mason City for the Region XI Duals.
