2023 ICCAC Spring Preview | Women's Golf

Dating back to the 2010 -- the Iowa Western Reivers have won every national qualifier that Region 11 has been apart of. 

The same is to be said heading into this spring, with IWCC as the favorite among the teams in the ICCAC. The Reivers have only been getting better -- with third and fourth place finishes at the National Tournament each of the past two seasons. Their biggest obstacle this season may come from within -- four freshmen fill four of the five spots. Madi Schlaepfer is the lone returner for last year's team. She placed fifth at the District and 28th at Nationals (the highest of any returner in the ICCAC).

Of the highest finishing returners from the ICCAC at the National Tournament -- Ashley Michel is it. The DMACC Bear placed 33rd at the tournament -- and looks to improve upon that this year. You can find her name atop or near the top of most leaderboards when she plays. She was seventh at last year's district. 

Other notable returners are Iowa Central's Kelly Boelyn and Abby Gaudian. Both were top 16 at the District -- one for Iowa Central (Boelyn) and one from Iowa Lakes (Gaudian). Both will represent the Tritons this season. 

NIACC has two returners that placed in the top 30 -- Kirsten Boerjan and Alysa Alert. And Iowa Lakes has Isabella Thorson (Santistevan). 

The top two teams from the District will advance to the National Tournament -- along with the next three best finishers from those that aren't on a qualifying team. Last year Dodge City and Barton County headed to the national tournament -- along with Iowa Western. For reference, DMACC took fourth and Iowa Lakes took fifth -- but were 38 and 40 strokes away from third. 

Region 11 will have their work cut out for them if they hope to capture the second team spot. 

All seven ICCAC teams, and the Region 6 and 9 teams, will meet at the Plains District Championship in Ankeny, Iowa at Otter Creek Golf Club on April 24-25. 36 holes will determine the national champion qualifiers.
