ICCAC Releases 2021-22 Women's Golf Awards
The 2022 Region XI Women's Golf All-Region teams were announced on Friday along with the announcement of the ICCAC Player and Coach of the Year.
Iowa Western has been one of the best teams in the NJCAA all season being ranked in the top-5 nearly this entire spring. Their success came to a head at the Plains District Championship on April 26th, securing a 30-stroke win and finishing at +45 for the tournament. For all this success Iowa Western has four golfers named to the first team.
The leader of the Reivers this season has been Luisa Gibson - a two-time First Team All-Region honoree also earned the designation as ICCAC Women's Golf Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Over the spring season Gibson finished with one medal, three runner-up (including a second-place finish at the Plains District Championship) two thirds and one fourth. She is currently the 19th ranked player in the NJCAA while also being listed as one of the top-10 players to watch for in the NJCAA by Golfstat.
Iowa Western had three more top-5 places at the Plains District Championship to earn First Team All-Region. The next up was Katie Graham. Graham's top finish this season was at the Plains District Championship where she shot +8 and finished in third place. Graham is currently the 26th ranked golfer in the NJCAA with an adjusted average score of 77.96.
Seira Kubo and Madi Schlaepfer completed the list of First Team honorees from the Iowa Western Reivers. At the Plains District Championship, the teammates finished in fourth and fifth place respectively. Kubo and Schlaepfer have been integral pieces to Iowa Western's success this season as both are ranked in the top-50 in the NJCAA. Each has found their way into the top-5 in several tournaments this season and besides two tournaments also finished in the top-20 in each tournament they competed in this spring.
DMACC's Ashley Michel. Michel has been a tough competitor this season. At the Plains District Championship Michel finished in seventh place after finishing at +18 on the tournament, earning her one of the three individual spots for the NJCAA National Tournament. Michelle shot her career low of 77 at the NIACC Spring Invitational where she took home medalist honors.
Coach of the Year honors this season went to Matt Robinson of Iowa Western. The Reivers won their 12th straight national qualifier with Robinson at the helm in his second season as the head women's golf coach.
