Reivers Finish Fourth, Bears and Lakers Cut at Nationals
The 2021 NJCAA Women's National Golf Championship took place at Plantation Bay Golf & Country Club in Ormond Beach, Florida from May 10-13. Iowa Western was the sole team from the ICCAC who made it past the cut, and the Reivers finished in a tie for fourth place. DMACC and Iowa Lakes both gave it their all but were cut after round three.
Iowa Western had good performances turned in from the team, including having two players finish in the top 15 with ties. Luisa Gibson averaged 78.25 in her four rounds of action and ended up finishing tied for ninth in the individual standings. Seira Kubo averaged an 80 and ended her year on a high note. A final round 74 was the lowest score for Iowa Western and it propelled her into a tie for 15th in the tournament. Both were named All-Americans for their performances. Gibson was a Second Team qualifier and Kubo, Honorable Mention.
Krista Swenson led the way for DMACC, she was the No. 2 golfer for the Bears all season but stepped up and went +64 for the tournament before the cut was made. She finished in 68th place in the individual standings. Iowa Lakes had a surprise as the number four golfer for the Lakers, Abby Gaudian was the best golfer for the team in their time. Gaudian shot +75 in her rounds and finished in a tie for 78th in the individual standings.
