Women’s Golf Region XI Championship Preview

The 2018 Women's Golf Region XI Championship begins this Friday as ICCAC teams will be vying for a trip to the National Championship. The meet will take place at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny, IA and runs through Saturday, April 28 in a two-weekend, four-round event.

NJCAA No. 13 Iowa Western, who was not at last week's Spring Preview, may be the favorite heading into the first weekend of play. Cassidy Evreniadis finished 21st individually at last season's NJCAA Championships is the highest ranked women's golfer in the ICCAC (currently 28^thon Golfstat). Evreniadis has won several meets this season including the Midland and Bellevue Invitationals in the fall.

NJCAA No. 18 DMACC will also be among the favorites for the team championship after a successful spring thus far. The Bears took first at the Region XI Spring Preview Meet last weekend. Sophomore Jaime Bellingham led all golfers with a score of 81 (+9), while sophomore Kortney Orr finished with third with a score of 91. Bellingham is currently ranked 36^th individually in the NJCAA by Golfstat, while Orr is ranked 80^th.  DMACC also took first place as a team at the DMACC Triangular on April 4 in Ankeny.

North Iowa Area has high hopes as the team enters the post-season. The Trojans' Courtney Tusler has led the team in each of its three meets this spring.  The sophomore shot a 93 at the Region XI Spring Preview Meet last weekend. Earlier this spring, NIACC opened the season with a fifth-place finish at the Graceland University Spring Invitational.

Southeastern will look to make a statement at this weekend's championship meet.  The team finished second at the Region XI Spring Preview Meet as Morgan Totsch (+18) and Frankie Johnson (+19) led the team. 

Iowa Lakes has participated in just two events this spring due to multiple weather cancellations. Because of an injury to Logan Weber, the Lakers have just three golfers on the roster this spring, which restricts the Lakers from posting any team scores until next season. The Lakers are led by freshmen Allison Freeman and Annika DuMoulin.

Southwestern will also only be competing for individual qualifiers with just four golfers entered. Bianca Findlay will be the Spartans No. 1 heading into the championship.

Qualification Standards:

The following 15 golfers will qualify for the NJCAA Women's Golf Championship, in Mesa, Arizona, May 14-17, 2018:

• First-place team (five golfers).
• The 10 best individual golfers not on the winning team.
