Hawkeye Takes Runner Up At NJCAA Women's Championships
The Hawkeye RedTails took second place at the 2024 NJCAA Women's Bowling Championships last weekend. The RedTails ended the event with 11925 total team pins, and the runner up behind Rock Valley who knocked over 12233 pins.
Leading the way for Hawkeye was freshman Ariana Chesmore. She took fourth place overall among the 100 bowlers scored at the Championships. Chesmore had four games in the 200s, including an event-high 220 in the sixth team game. She had a 207 and 200 as well in the team games.
Notably, Chesmore and teammate Brianna Ross won the Women's Doubles title, scoring 1070 combined. Chesmore had games of 190, 160, and 191 for 541 total. Ross rolled a 191, 167 and 171 for a 529 total. Together they beat out second place by 14 pins.
In third place in doubles was Iowa Western's duo Kerry Crossman and Theresa DeWerth. Combined the two bowled a 1048.
In singles, Hawkeye's Lauren Funk was the highest placer among ICCAC bowlers. Funk was fifth in singles finishing with 590 pins, a 196.6 average over the three games. Her best game was a 209 in that set.
Overall, Funk was the only other All-American finisher of ICCAC bowlers -- finishing in seventh place. Top 8 are awarded All-American annually. Funk averaged 179.3 pins per game in 12 games.
Other notable finishers in the All-Events were Crossman (10th) DeWerth (12th), Iowa Central's Anna Frahm, (14th) Hawkeye's Anna Becker (15th) and Ross (20th).
Iowa Western took third place on the women's side. They finished 171 pins behind Hawkeye. Iowa Central rounded out the group with sixth place team finish of 13 teams at the event.
