2024-25 Winter Preview | Division II Women's Basketball
The 2024-25 season will again provide two more pathways for Region 11 teams to earn an automatic bid to the NJCAA National Tournament.
Last year, two teams accomplished that with both Kirkwood and Iowa Western making it through the 20-team dance. This year, Kirkwood is back as the favorite to win the region after winning their second national championship in the last three seasons and ninth in school history.
Iowa Western brings in a new coach in Zach Loll who came to Council Bluffs from Dodge City. The Coaches Poll has the Reivers picked third this year behind Kirkwood and NIACC.
The NIACC Trojans are ranked No. 10 coming into the season, their first time in the polls since 2019-20 when they ended the season No. 1 before the season was shut down by COVID.
Iowa Central and DMACC are in the middle of the pack along with Northeast. Any of those three could fill the spot of the No. 4 team which would host a first round matchup come postseason play.
Iowa Lakes has also been known to finish in the top half of the conference in recent memory. They'd like to have a short memory of last season where they failed to qualify for the regional tournament.
Ellsworth and Marshalltown look to improve this season -- along with Southwestern who will have a challenge under a first-year head coach.
