30 Best Named to Reigon 11 All-Region Teams
The ICCAC Division II Women's Basketball league released their 2022-23 All-Region teams on Tuesday. Thirty of the conference's best players were recognized across three teams -- 10 allotted to each team.
As voted by the coaches, Kirwkood, the Region 11 Champions, earned four of the 10 First Team spots, and eight selections overall.
The top vote getter this season was Tasia Jordan, who in turn was named the ICCAC Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Year. The sophomore did it all for the Eagles this season -- leading the ICCAC in both scoring and rebounding. She averaged 15 points per game on the season -- and in conference play, elevated her average to 17.6 points per game. Her 8.3 rebounds per game were highest in conference play as well.
The sophomore had an 18-games streak of double-digit scoring outputs -- as well as five double-doubles. Jordan was also top 10 steals (61) and blocks (24).
Other Eagles to garner First Team recognition were Naya Haymon, Jada Devine and Demetria Prewitt.
Devine was the team's second leading scorer at 10.2 points per game while adding 3.2 rebounds per game. She is second in the conference in blocks this season with 36, 23 in conference play.
Prewitt, a freshman, was named ICCAC Division II Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Year. She averaged 10.1 points per game in conference play to go along with 4.8 rebounds.
Haymon was one of the team's leaders despite her statistical production. The sophomore helped run the show -- while averaging 2.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game in 28 games this season.
Iowa Western placed two of their top performers on First Team this year. The Region 11 runner-up placed Aleshia Jones and Ndidiamaka Ndukwe on the First Team for the second year in a row. The league's only two returning First Teamers, Jones led the Reivers in scoring at 13.8 points per game. She was top 10 in rebounding as well with 160 total. Jones was a top five three-point shooter in the conference, making 60 this season, fourth-most in the ICCAC.
Ndukwe put up 10.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. She led the league in free throw percentage at 90.7 percent in conference play, while making the third-most (49-54).
Audrey Martinez-Stewart shined this season for NIACC. Twice the Trojan's point guard had triple doubles in points, rebounds and assists. In conference play she was top five in rebounds at 6.8 per game and led the conference in steals with 55. With that she was named the ICCAC Division II Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year.
Iowa Lakes had one of the best players in the league this year in Brielle Bartelt. The sophomore powered the Lakers to the No. 3 seed by season's end, and was a consistent threat every game. She ended the season second in scoring at 14.9 points per game and was top five in assists.
Rounding out the First Team were two freshmen, DMACC's Jaden Ainley and Northeast's Allison Richards.
DMACC reliedon Ainley's scoring -- as she scored the third-most in the league per game at 14.3 per game and led the league in free throws made.
Richards was on her way to the ICCAC scoring title -- prior to a season-ending injury she averaged 17.8 points per game in 16 games -- and 18.8 in eight conference games.
The Coach of the Year was given to Kim Muhl of Kirkwood. During the 2022-23 season, Muhl picked up his 1000th career victory in his 34th season of coaching. The Eagles were ranked in the top five for most of the season and won their third straight Region 11 regular season and tournament title. It is Muhl's fourth ICCAC Division II Women's Basketball Coach of the Year award since the ICCAC began awarding in 2017-18.
