Charlotte, NC - Kirkwood (IA) sophomore center Ashley Tull has been named the 2021-22 NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Year.
The 5'11" center made her presence known all season on both sides of the ball, playing a crucial role in the Eagles' championship run. On offense, she averaged just shy of 12 points per game (11.8) while grabbing the nation's second-most offensive rebounds (142). Defense, however, is what set her apart from the rest. She grabbed 188 defensive rebounds and concluded the season ranked 3rd in total rebounds (330). This was complemented by her 74 blocks which was good for fifth in the nation.
During the national tournament, Tull stepped her game up to another level. In the Eagles' opening game against Dakota, Tull grabbed an astounding 19 rebounds, one more than Dakota's entire starting-five. She didn't slow down as she grabbed another 16 in the championship game against Morton. In total, she averaged 9.8 points and 14.3 rebounds per game en route to national title.
These efforts during the national tournament earned Tull All-Tournament team honors.
