Game of the Week (Iowa Western @ #1 Kirkwood)
Iowa Western headed into Cedar Rapids last weekend with vengeance on the their mind. Taking on the NJCAA Division II No. 1 team Kirkwood, the Eagles beat the Reivers 73-55 in the first first meeting back on Jan. 30.
The first half of the rematch was balanced the whole way through with both teams scoring 16 points in the second quarter and Kirkwood took a narrow lead into the locker room with a score of 32-29.
The offenses came out firing in the second half as Iowa Western scored 20+ in both quarters and Kirkwood scored 21 in the fourth. At the end of the game the Reivers were able to avenge their loss with a 73-68 victory.
Balance was the name of the game for Iowa Western, they had three starters score double digits with Gabriella Smith leading the way with 19. Isnelle Natabou had 18.
The Reivers may not have shot very well from the free throw line, only going 54% from the charity stripe, but the difference in the game was still made at the free throw line. Iowa Western shot 28 (15 made) free throws to Kirkwood's 10 (seven made).
Kemara Watson had 19 points and nine rebounds for the Eagles and Ashley Tull had eight points and 10 rebounds.
Iowa Western and Kirkwood are now each 14-1 in conference play.
