NJCAA Selects 2021 All-American Softball Teams
The NJCAA released the 2021 Softball All-Americans on Friday, with seven ICCAC members earning the recognition.
There were three chosen from ICCAC Division I teams, as both the ICCAC's Player and Pitcher of the Year were selected.
Indian Hills' Nicole Bellis, ICCAC Player of the Year, was chosen to the First Team. Bellis had some of the top power numbers in the country including 101 RBIs, second-most in the NJCAA. She hit 18 homers, 15 doubles and in all had 88 hits. She finished the year with a slash line of .471/.514/.850.
Second Team selection and ICCAC Pitcher of the Year Brook Melnychuk represented Iowa Western. The sophomore was second in the country in wins with 27. She finished with a 27-8 record with 214 innings pitched, a 1.67 ERA and 271 strikeouts, third-most in the NJCAA.
Rounding out Division I was Southeastern's Abigayle Miller as the Third Team designated player. Miller hit .376 with 10 home runs, 47 RBI and had an OPS of 1.033.
There were four players selected to the three teams of Division II Softball All-Americans.
Leading the way on First Team was DMACC's Sophie Maras. The ICCAC Division II Player of the Year led the NJCAA in at least eight categories, including home runs (29), RBI (92), total bases (234), walks (40), runs scored (105) and hits (117).
She was second in the nation in stolen bases as well with 55.
Joining her teammate Maras was the Bears' Abby Husak. The outfielder was a Second Team selection after finishing with a .507 average, just second to Maras' .515.
Husak's on-base percentage was .570 and with a .536 slugging percentage, she had an OPS of 1.106. She was top 45 in hits (70) and 21st in runs scored (66).
Kirkwood's pitcher and ICCAC Division II Pitcher of the Year Kori Wedeking was a First Team selection. She was first in the country in innings pitched (202.1) and had the most complete games (27). She accumulated the second-most wins (29) and had nine shutouts in 33 starts.
Wedeking was fourth in strikeouts with 226.
Last on the list was Third Team selection from Iowa Central, Loghen Schnetzer. Schnetzer was one of the top power hitters in the ICCAC and in the country. She had the second-most homers in the NJCAA with 27. She racked up 83 RBI, which was fifth-most, and she accumulated 176 total bases, sixth-best. Schnetzer batted .410 and scored 61 runs for the Tritons.
