FORT DODGE, Iowa -- The 2022 Region 11 Cross Country Championships will take place Sunday, Oct. 30 at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge. Iowa Central is the meet host -- the women will run at 11:00 a.m. and the men will follow at noon.
On the women's side -- the team to watch for Division I is Iowa Central -- with three runners in the top 10 in times for the ICCAC this year, two of them in the top five (Taylor McCreedy and Chloe Garcia-Grafing). The Triton Women are 12-time reigning Region 11 Champions dating back to 2010.
The other team to watch is Iowa Western. The Reivers have the reigning Region 11 Champion Mercy Biwott-- who has the fastest time in 17:22.8. They also have three runners in the top 10 as well. This season will come down to depth --- with the fourth and fifth runners' scores having an impact on the regional championship.
On the Division II side -- Southeastern has the top runner in the conference, Aisha Ramone -- who has the third best time across both divisions this season. The Blackhawks look to compete with DMACC for the crown -- with Hawkeye, the two-time reigning champions, in the mix as well.
In Division I Men's, Iowa Central running at their home course could show some low numbers. Iowa Central has eight of the fastest times by runners in the ICCAC and are the favorites on Sunday. Aspel Kiprob returns as the 2021 Region 11 Champion for the Tritons, eight-time reigning champs.
Iowa Western's Jacinto Gaspar could push Kiprob for the crown -- his best time is just two-tenths of a second slower.
The Division II Men's championship has been won by NIACC each of the past two seasons. This year, the championship is up in the air both individually and for the team.
NIACC's Bryson Canton has the top mark of the DII runners. D'Artagnon Beaver of Hawkeye is close behind -- one second slower.
Between NIACC, Hawkeye and Southeastern -- the DII kick will be fun to watch.
