ICCAC Cross Country Results | Week 6
MASON CITY, IA - This Friday, NIACC hosted the fourth annual Trent Smith Invitational which honors the late cross country/track and field NIACC standout Trent Smith. The women started off the day at 4:30 p.m. and the men followed. The race was held on NIACC's campus.
For the women, Iowa Central was the overall team champion. The Tritons had four top-10 finishers with Josie Stackis leading the team finishing second with a time of 20:58.31. Stackis was followed in third by teammate Shaunti Longfellow who crossed the finish line at 21:46.09. The third top-10 finisher for the Tritons was Kyleen Irwin who placed sixth running a time of 22:12.21 which was 22 seconds ahead of seventh place. The last top-10 finisher from the Tritons Kristyn Beaman finishing with a time of 22:45.01.
NIACC finished in second place in the overall team standings. NIACC's own Sarah Bertry won the individual medal running a time of 19:31.63. Bertry's time was the 10th fastest women's time at the Trent Smith Invitational. Another top-5 finisher from the Trojans was Whitney Martin who finished fifth running a 22:01.83. This was six seconds behind fourth place. The Trojans accounted for the ninth and tenth finishers as well with Addy Witt (22:57.19) and Lauren Kern (23:54.23) finishing in that order.
Indian Hills finished third overall with two top-10 finishers in the meet. In fourth place, Shiggo Shadin ran a time of 21:55.71 and in seventh place was Monse Chapula who ran a time of 22:34.01.
On the men's side, NIACC took the Trent Smith Invitational crown. This is the second time the NIACC men have won the Trent Smith Invite with their last win being in 2017. NIACC had five of the top six runners in Friday's meet. Melvin Kipkemboi led the Trojans finishing second running a 26:21.66. Less than a minute separted the next four Trojan finishers. Jorge Ruiz finished four seconds behind Kipkemboi with a time of 26:25.99 and Vicente Correia followed with a time of 26:38.62. The next two finishers for the Trojans crossed the finish line with one second separting them. Jalen Peterson finished in fifth with a time of 27:15.26 and Janvier Irakoze placed sixth (27:16.16).
Iowa Central brought their JV team to the meet with the Tritons competing in the NAIA Stampede in Cedar Rapids the next day. The Triton JV team placed second overall. Jordan Hustak was the Triton's top finisher coming in seventh place (27:18.92). The Tritons had another top-10 finisher which was Darius Brown who finished tenth running a time of 27:33.15.
The Warriors of Indian Hills placed third overall. The Warriors had one top-10 finisher who was Nicholas O'Connor who placed ninth running a 27:25.30. The next Warrior finisher was Christopher Metz who finished 12th coming in at a time of 28:08.55.
Hawkeye finished the meet in fourth place overall. The Redtails were responsible for the top individual finisher with Sam Mickelson finishing four seconds ahead of Kipkemboi with a time of 26:17.17. Harrison Vanderlinden of the RedTails finished eighth as well. (29:19.75)
To round out the team finishes was Southwestern who finished in fifth place. The top Spartan finisher was Josh Baudler who came in 21st running a time of 29:02.14.
NAIA Seminole Valley Stampede Results
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - With the JV team competing in the Trent Smith Invite, Iowa Central took the rest of the squad to Cedar Rapids to run in the NAIA Seminole Valley Stampede. The race was held on the Seminole Cross Country Course hosted by Mount Mercy University. Iowa Central took second place averaging a time of 25:40 for their finishers. The Tritons had two top-5 finishers who finished nine seconds apart. Sophomore Pur Biel was the meet's runner up finishing with a time of 24:53.3 in the 8K race. Biel's teammate Kelvin Bungei finished right behind him running a 25:02.8. NAIA affilate Huntington Univeristy won the event with the top individual finisher as well.

LOOK AHEAD: The ICCAC will have their second to last race before the Regional Tournament in Ottumwa, Iowa with Indian Hills hosting their Invitational. The schools competing are Hawkeye, Iowa Central, Iowa Western, NIACC, Scott, Southeastern, Southwestern, and host Indian Hills.
