ICCAC Cross Country Results | Week 4
SWCC hosted Spartan Classic; Scott competed at St. Ambrose.
CRESTON, Iowa - This past Friday, Southwestern hosted their first home meet on campus in 10 years.
The women ran first with a 5K; NIACC was the overall meet champion averaging a team time of 22:49. NIACC had five runners finish in the top-10.
Sarah Bertry was the individual medalist running a time of 19:39.9. This was three minutes ahead of the runner-up, Shiggo Shadin of Indian Hills. Trojan teammate, Whitney Martin ran a 22:33.1 which placed her third individually. NIACC freshman Addy Witt finished fifth (23:29.7) and sophomore Lauren Kern finished sixth (23:44.0). Rounding out the finishers for the Trojans was Maisie Hoskins who ran a 24:42.3 which landed her in ninth place.
Indian Hills was the other team who placed, finishing second 11 points behind NIACC. They had a team time average of 26:20. The Warriors were led by the afforementioned sophomore Shadin who ran a 22:21 which was good for second place. Along with Shadin, Monse Chapula finished in fifth place crossing the finish line with a time of 23:08.6. The next finisher for the Warriors was Julie Granahan (26:01.5) who finished 13th. Coming in 17 seconds behind Granahan was Addy Dykstra who placed 14th (26:18.4).
DMACC, Southwestern and Southeastern did not place as a team in the meet. DMACC had two top-10 finishers with Wendy Liera finishing seventh (23:56.3) and Karima Koko finishing 10th (25:11.1). For Southwestern, they were led by Maslyn Hummel who placed 15th with a time of 26:23.1. Southeastern had two finishers as well finishing in consecutive places. Thalia Thomas finished 11th (25:28.9) and Makayla Wells finished 12th (25:29.3).
On the men's side they ran an 8K in which NIACC kept the momentum from the women winning the meet with 29 points. The Trojans had the first three finishers with Jorge Ruiz claiming the top spot running a 27:15.1. Finishing 40 seconds behind Ruiz, Vincente Correia placed second with a time of 27:55.9. Rounding out the top finishers for the Trojans was Jalen Petersen who finished third with a time of 28:06.2.
Indian Hills finished second overall in team standings with freshman Nick O'Connor leading the Warriors coming in fourth (28:23.3). Finishing behind O'Connor was three Warrior runners with Ethan Mesenbrink finishing sixth (29:19.3), Colten Glosser finished seventh (29:27.2), and Chris Metz finished eighth with a time of 29.28.7.
Southwestern came in fourth overall averaging a team time of 32:13. The Spartans top finisher was Josh Baulder who ran a 29:15.4. This was Baulder's first meet back since the Grand View Open in early September.
DMACC and Southeastern did not place in the team scoring at the meet. DMACC was led by Preston Rogers who finished 19th with a time of 31:36.4 and Southeastern was led by Dylan Steele landing him 26th (32:45.5).
BETTENDORF, Iowa - The other ICCAC action was in the St. Ambrose Invite where Scott competed six school field.
The women did not place but had one finisher who was Kaylie DeSwart who ran the 5K in a time of 25:44.
The men finished tied for third overall with Clarke University. The Eagles had three finishers with Eric Zabel leading the team running a time of 28:46 which placed him sixth. The next finishers were Noah Smith who placed 12th (30:32) and Kyle Gassman who placed 17th (30:32).

Looking Ahead: The next ICCAC action will be in Sioux City, IA in the Briar Cliff Invititational. The two ICCAC teams competing are Iowa Central and Iowa Western.
