The NIACC men placed second at last year's regional meet with 58 points. Jaime Zarate was seventh in 26:53 to lead the Trojans.
The national men's and women's cross country meet is Nov. 8 in Lubbock, Texas.
Last time out: The NIACC men won the overall team title and the junior college division at the St. Ambrose Fighting Bee Invitational last Saturday with 58 points. The NIACC women were fifth overall and were the junior college champions with 126 points.
Freshman Trey Simons led the NIACC men at St. Ambrose with a first-place finish in the 8-kilometer race in a school-record time of 25 minutes, 24 seconds. Sophomore Hannah Palmeter won the women's 5K race in a personal-best time of 18:20, which is the second fastest time in school history.
In the rankings: The NIACC men are ranked 11th in the latest NJCAA poll. The Iowa Central men are ranked third and Iowa Western is ranked eighth. The NIACC women are ranked 18th and Iowa Central is ranked No. 1 and Iowa Western is ranked 11th.
