Two Warriors Earn Highest Honors While Reivers, Tritons Top All-Region Lists
Iowa Western took home the Region 11 Championship this season at the Indoor Track & Field Championships, but it was a pair of Indian Hills performers that took home the league's top individual honors this season.
The 2025 Track Athlete of the Year for the Indoor season went to the Warriors' Raynier Galvez.
Galvez has continued the line of Indian Hills 600 Meter Champions this season, winning the Region 11 crown. He became the third Warrior in a row to win the event. Currently he holds the top mark in the NJCAA in both the 600 Meters and the 800 Meters with times of 1:16.70 and 1:48.34.
His 600 Meter time is second all-time in the NJCAA record books, and his 800 is third.
Galvez is also on two top 5 relay teams in the country in the Distance Medley and 4x400. Indian Hills won the Region 11 Championship in the 4x4 this season.
In Field events, it was Tate Joens, again, who was named the Field Athlete of the Year. Joens, who won both the Shot Put and the Weight Throw at the Region 11 Championships, now has his third designation of the award after sweeping both the Indoor & Outdoor honors last season.
This year, Joens has only improved on his previous bests. He set the Indian Hills school records in both throwing events -- 18.04 meters in the Shot Put and 19.37 meters in the Weight Throw -- and is the nation's No. 2 in each as well.
At the Region 11 Meet, he broke the meet record in the Shot Put.
Rounding out this year's special awards was David Burnett winning Coach of the Year. Iowa Western won their second-straight Region 11 Championship and fourth in the last five seasons.
This is Burnett's second-straight COY honor; his Reiver team won eight regional events and garnered 23 All-Region designations.
Currently, 20 Reiver athletes are in the top 10 in the NJCAA in their respective events, including a No. 1 spot on the Distance Medley Relay.
The Reiver's top performers at this year's Region 11 Championships, which determine All-Region designation, were sprinters Nikkolia Kennedy (60 Meter Hurdles), Wallace Aflamah (200 Meters) and Michael Francois (400 Meters). Francois won his second consecutive title in the 400 with a time of 48.19.
Pierre Carlier won the 1000 Meters and the 2024 NJCAA Half Marathon Champion Barnabas Ndiwa took the 3000 Meters. Both also found their way into All-Region performances in the Mile and 5000 Meters, respectively.
Cain Brown won the High Jump, David Aya won the Long Jump and Otenidi Omot took the Triple Jump as the Reivers swept the jumping events.
Iowa Central saw the second-most regional champions winning seven events. Alan Lefevre was the Heptathlon champion as the Tritons swept the podium.
The Tritons also won two of the three relays in the 4x800 and the Distance Medley Relay. Notably, Mohamed Dahmouch was on the DMR winning team and also won the Mile for two First Team designations.
Chakib Cherkaoui Rhazouani won the 5000 Meters, Taha Ouichene took the 800 Meters and Amarion Bradley was the Pole Vault Champion.
In addition to Joens winning the throwing events, Indian Hills took home titles in the remaining five events. They won the 4x400 Meter Relay, led by Galvez who, as mentioned, also won the 600 Meters.
Finally, Donictress Robinson was this year's 60 Meter champion.
