2025 Region 11 Championship Preview | Indoor Track & Field
STORM LAKE, Iowa - ICCAC schools are preparing for the end of the indoor track and field season with the Region 11 Indoor Track & Field Meet. The Championships will be hosted by Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa. Events will start on Friday, February 21.
Men's Indoor Track & Field
The top teams in the ICCAC this season are also some of the best in the country. Indian Hills, Iowa Western and Iowa Central are all ranked inside the Top 5 via the National Track & Field Rating Index released by USTFCCCA. Indian Hills is the highest on the list sitting at No. 2, having been ranked No. 1 in prior weeks.k Iowa Western is ranked No. 4 and Iowa Central rounds out the top five coming in at No. 5. Sitting outside the top 25, Hawkeye started the season No. 15 and has hovered just outside the top 25 all season long.
Indian Hills has earned their spot at No. 2 in large part from their track events, but also with help from thrower Tate Joens who is second and third respectively in the Shot Put (17.48m) and Weight Throw (19.37m). Leading the NJCAA in the 600 and 800 Meters, Raynier Galvez has been a key contributor for the Warriors this season. Indian Hills also has the best 4x800 relay team in the NJCAA this season. Distance runner Cayde de Waal only trails Iowa Central's Mohamed Dahmouch in the Miles by just under two seconds.
Last season, it was the Iowa Western Reivers that won the Region. This year Iowa Western leads the NJCAA in the Distance Medley Relay and has multiple athletes in the top five of events across the NJCAA. Yekini Bowen has the best Shot Put of any ICCAC athlete this season, besting Indian Hills Joens by 0.07 meters. Jumping is also a strong point for Iowa Western as Lebon Attoungbre and OT Omot lead the ICCAC in Triple Jump and High Jump respectively.
Rounding out the ranked teams in Region 11, Iowa Central is strong in long distance events. Dahmouch is No. 1 in the 1000 Meters and the Mile in the NJCAA. Iowa Central is especially strong in the 1000 Meters with three of the top five runners in the NJCAA this year.
Women's Indoor Track & Field
Leading the way on the women's side are reigning Region 11 Champions Iowa Western ranked at No. 3. Two spots below the Reivers, Iowa Central is No. 5 in the polls and then Indian Hills rounds out the ranked teams in the ICCAC at No. 19.
Iowa Western got back to their winning ways last season -- taking three of the last five region titles. The Reivers strengths are in distance and field events, arguably having the No. 1 distance runner Juliana Sakat who leads the NJCAA in the Mile, 3000 Meters and 5000 Meters. In Field events Mercy Honesty, the 2024 Region 11 Field Athlete of the Year last season, leads the NJCAA in the Triple Jump while the Reivers have the top ICCAC athletes in the Shot Put (Sarai Simpson) and Long Jump (Sakina Umar) events.
Iowa Central is aiming to win their 17th Indoor Region 11 title in the last 19 years. They are well-balanced in the field events with top 5 athletes in the NJCAA in the Long Jump, Triple Jump and Weight Throw. In the 60 Meters and the 1,000 Meters the Tritons have the top runners of ICCAC schools.
Indian Hills has strong runners this year in sprinting events. They have three athletes in the top 20 of the NJCAA in the 60 Meters, as well as the NJCAA No. 1, Dymonde Nave, in the 60 Meter Hurdles. They also have the top ICCAC runner in the 200 Meters this season in Kenyatta Grate along with the top team in 4x400 relay time of any team in the conference.
