Men's Indoor Track & Field
On the men's side, Iowa Western, Indian Hills, Iowa Central, and NIACC have showed their excellence against competition. Three of those four schools happen to be ranked inside the Top 25 from the National Track & Field Rating Index released by the USTFCCCA. Indian Hills currently sits at No. 1 while Iowa Western is right behind them at No. 2. Iowa Central arrives in the 14th, while NIACC looks to get back into the Top 25 after recently falling out.
Indian Hills controls that number one spot in the rankings thanks to their deep depth within the running events. Tyrice Taylor leads the NJCAA in both the 800 Meter Run and 600 Meter Run with teammate Terrick Johnson just .18 seconds behind in the 600. Keveroy Venson also holds one of the top spots in the NJCAA ranks including first in the 1000 Meter Run and third in the Mile. Venson trails Iowa Western's Geoffry Ronoh by just .10 seconds for second place.
In the team relays, the Warriors of Indian Hills are on top of the mountain. They are first in the NJCAA in both the 4x800 and Distance Medley Relay. The Warriors then are listed at second in the 4x400 Relay, just 0.89 seconds behind first place New Mexico.
Iowa Western checks-in at fourth place in the 4x800 and second place in the Distance Medley, just three seconds behind Indian hills for first place. Iowa Central holds a solid spot for each team event. They ranked eighth in the 4x400, sixth in the 4x800, and sixth in the Distance Medley.
Last season it was Iowa Central who took home first place in the Region 11 Championship on the men's side. Iowa Western came in second while Indian Hills finished third. There remains lots of talent on all of their rosters, but as the Warriors sit in first place in the rankings, they didn't come all this way just to miss out on a championship once again.

Women's Indoor Track & Field
The women's side will be headed by three schools, Iowa Western Indian Hills, and Iowa Central. Both the Reivers and Warriors are ranked inside the top 10, while the defending Region 11 Champs, Iowa Central are ranked #18.
The Tritons narrowly beat Iowa Western last season to stop the Reivers from a three-peat. Though ranked below both Iowa Western and Indian Hills, the Tritons still have a lot of talent on their roster, along with a long line of success. Since 2006, Iowa Central has won 16 of the last 18 Region 11 Indoor Championships.
Iowa Western is considered a more balanced team inside the relay events. The Reivers placed sixth in the 4x400, fourth in the 4x800, and second in the Distance Medley Relay. Others that crack the top 10 include both Southeastern and Indian Hills.
In the 4x400 Relay, the Warriors sit in ninth while outside the top 15 for other team relays events. The Blackhawks sit in fifth for the 4x800 and 12th in the Distance Medley Relay.
There is a ton of good talent throughout all these teams, along with some others who aren't ranked inside the top 25. Some runners to watch out for during the 60 Meter Sprint include Oarabile Tshosa from Indian Hills and Judith Koumedzina from Iowa Western. Tshosa leads the NJCAA with a time of 7.41 that happened this year at the Washburn Alumni Invite. Koumedzina isn't too far behind either with a time of 7.56.
Iowa Central's Tina Samson is another athlete that has had her way with events this year. As a freshman she leads the NJCAA categories in both the Pentathlon and Long Jump.
Other notable athletes include a trio from Iowa Western. Ethel Amissah is one of the top 400 Meter runners in the country. Angeline Estrada has the best time in Region 11 this season in the 600, 800 and 1000 Meters. Lastly, Barbara Neiva holds Region 11 high marks in the 3,000 and 5,000 Meters.
The Reivers hold top performances in 15 of 20 events this season. We'll see if they have the depth to win the Region 11 Championship.
