Tritons Take Region 11 Championship
STORM LAKE, Iowa - The Iowa Central Tritons regained control of Region 11 after relenting the title last year to Iowa Western. This year's Triton team rebounded with 271 point team total to dethrone the Reivers, who finished in second with 222 points.
Waukeem Walters one of the top performers last weekend -- winning the Long Jump and taking second in the Triple Jump. It was Walter's first time jumping this season in the Triple Jump, and he already held the highest standard for the High Jump in the region.
Yared Kidane set a new Meet Record in the 800 Meter -- he broke a 12 year old record held by Banjo Jaiyesimi of Iowa Western by .25 seconds. Kidane was also on the 4x400 second place team for the Tritons.
Iowa Central swept the 60 Meters and 60 Meter Hurdles with Zion Campbell taking the open and Joel Nyatusah taking the hurdles.
Camron Ventura won the Pole Vault and took second in the Heptathlon behind teammate Aries Scott.
Other Triton champions included Roman Kuleshov, who won the Triple Jump, and the 4x800 Meter Relay team.
Iowa Western runners won five track events at the regional. Tahj Hamm took the 200 Meters and 400 Meters, Mohammed Kowa won the Mile, and Jacinto Gaspar led the way in the 3000 and 5000 Meters. They also won the Distance Medley Relay.
Those trio led all scorers on the day, with Gaspar totaling 26 team points, while Hamm and Kowa each provided the Reivers with 20.5 points.
In the field Tyler Missick won the High Jump and Denzs Simmonds won the Shot Put.
Michael Harris added 18 team points for the Reivers with two runner up finishes in the throwing events.
Other winners included, most notably, Rivaldo Marshall of Indian Hills. Marshall set the new record in the 1000 Meters, breaking a two year old record set by Kelvin Bungei of Iowa Central back in 2020.
Tyrice Taylor won the 600 Meters for the Warriors, while IHCC also took the 4x400 Meter Relay.
Rounding out the day's champions was Tino Tamayo of Hawkeye, the Weight Thrown winner.
