Chebet, Ailes Take Home Hardware as Women's Track & Field All-Region Announced
Last Saturday and Sunday the Iowa Western Women won the Region XI Outdoor Track & Field Championships, securing the meet victory with a team score of 307.5 and winning 14 events.
Hilda Chebet took home two individual championships this season in the 1,500 and 10,000-meter runs. Chebet has been one of the top runners in the nation in those events and defended her status with a time of 4:40.98 in the 1,500 and 37:16.6 in the 10,000 meters. She was named the 2022 ICCAC Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year.
In all three of her events, she is the current No. 1 in the NJCAA and the school record holder.
Taking home the 2022 ICCAC Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year honors was Miracle Ailes. Ailes was the champion in both the long jump with a distance of 6.30 meters and in the high jump with a height of 1.85 meters. Her high jump is No. 1 in the NJCAA and No. 1in the world for U20. At 1.85 meters -- Ailes set a new Region XI meet record.
Her long jump is No. 3 in the country, and her jump this year was second longest in Region XI Meet history.
Chebet and Ailes coach, Douglas Marshall, was named the 2022 Coach of the Year as the Reivers took their third Region XI Outdoor Championship in a row. The Reivers have won back-to-back NJCAA Indoor titles and were third last season at Outdoor.
Other notable All-Region performers this season were Iowa Western's Tirecia Walcott who earned First Team status in the 100 meter, 200 meter and 4x100 meter relay.
Mercy Biwott, the 2021 ICCAC Division I Women's Cross Country champion, won the 5,000 meter and was Second Team in the 10,000 and Honorable Mention Team in the 1,500.
Dyandra Gray continued her hurdles success by winning the 100 meter hurdles and 400 meter hurdles.
Rounding out the Reivers notables was Antonia Sealy -- the 2022 ICCAC Indoor Women's Field Athlete of the Year -- was the heptathlon champion and javelin winner. She was also Second Team in the 100 meter hurdles and Honorable Mention Team shot put.
While winning the javelin with a 42.87 meter launch -- Sealy broke the Region XI meet record. She also broke the shot put record for the heptathlon with a 12.17 meter chuck.
Iowa Central's Britney Brown won the 400 meter run and was Honorable Mention in the 200 meter.
Emma Hoins of Hawkeye was on two All-Region lists with a First Team finish in the 3000 meter Steeplechase -- and was on the Honorable Mention 4x400 meter relay team for the RedTails. Her steeplechase time of 10:55.67 set a new Region meet mark.
Southwestern boasted Molly Venteicher -- First Team All-Region shot put -- was the Spartans second Region XI Champion in school history. She broke all the previous SWCC records in the shot put, hammer throw and javelin.
Lastly, Ailyah Simmons from Indian Hills was First Team in the 800 meter and the 4x400 meter relay. Simmons 800 meter of 2:13.80 was a Region XI meet record.
