2022 NJCAA Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships
The NJCAA Indoor Men's and Women's National Championships concluded on Saturday with many championship performances and career best times from ICCAC athletes.
On the women's side the Iowa Western repeat as national champions on the indoor oval with a convincing 62-point win. This is Iowa Western's second national champion after earning the program' first indoor title in 2021. Iowa Western took home first-place in eight different events this year, with three individual 1st place finishes coming from freshman Hilda Chebet. Chebet has been dominant this indoor season but solidified her success with wins in the 3000-meter, the 5000-meter and the one-mile run. She also earned second team All-American honors in the 1000-meter run.
Other Iowa Western champions include returning national champion Nickisha Pryce. Pryce was able to secure her second 400-meter national championship with a time of 53.68. The Reivers also made statement in the field events starting with Miracle Ailes who took home first-place with a gold medal securing jump of 1.80 meters. Continuing the success in the field events for the Reivers Victory George with a winning triple jump distance of 12.86 meters. Antonia Sealy has been at the top of the pentathlon the entire season and capped off the indoor season with a win with a total of 3678 points. The Reivers also picked up a win in the 4x400-meter relay behind the team of Alliyah McNeil, Daniella Deer, Dyandra Gray and Nickisha Pryce with a time of 3:42.75.
Iowa Central had one individual champion of there own, Victoria Adu, who captured first place in the weight throw with a throw of 18.73 meters. Concluding the champions on the women's side was Aliyah Simmons of Indian Hills. The sophomore took home first-place in the 800-meter run with a career best time of 2:10.55.
On the men's side of the competition Iowa Western squeezed past Iowa Central for a second-place finish in the team race. Iowa Western had two athletes earn All-American honors this year starting with Nicholas Kiprotich in the 5000-meter run. Kiprotich has been a top competitor in the event all season and earned second team honors with a career best time of 14:22.87. Also earning honors for the Reivers was Nemoy Crockett in the weight throw. Crockett's throw of 18.43 meters was also a career best and earned him a spot on the second team.
Iowa Central had the lone champion of all ICCAC competitors on the men's side. Roman Kuleshov has been one of the best triple jumpers in the national this season and continued his dominance with a personal best jump of 15.72 meters. The Tritons also picked up a second-place finish in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 7:46.80.
Rounding out the list on the men's side are Aurel Tchnabi and Rivaldo Marshall of Indian Hills. Tchnabi took home second-team honors in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 20.98. Marshall also received a second-team distinction for his runner up finish in the 800-meter run finishing in 1:51.30.
