STORM LAKE, Iowa - ICCAC schools are preparing for the end of the indoor track and field season with the Region XI Indoor Track & Field Meet. The Meet is hosted by Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa. The first event will start at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, February 18.
The men's side of the Region XI Track & Field looks to be one of the most competitive fields of talent in the country. Three teams are ranked in the top 5 in the NJCAA, but the power dynamic from last season has been switched up. The Iowa Central men were last year's Region XI champions but come into the meet ranked #4 in the NJCAA. Indian Hills precedes them at #3 and Iowa Western at #2. Iowa Western and Indian Hills are at the top of nearly every single event and will be slugging it out at the top. Iowa Central has a lot of competition on their roster, with strong showings in the field events. It will be hard for the rest of the field to find a real footing in the meet against the teams at the top. Look for NIACC and Hawkeye to have several podium finishes.
Indian Hills returns their top sprinter in Aurel Tchnabi, the returning champion in both the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Tchnabi and teammate Damoy Allen have been neck and neck in both the 60 and the 200 and have been a powerful duo this indoor season.
In the long-distance races, lookout for Yonas Mogos and Nicholas Kiprotich of Iowa Western. Mogos currently has the fastest times in the ICCAC in both the 1000-meter run and the mile. Kiprotich has been great this indoor season and will be the front runner in the 5000-meter run.
Blake Veenstra is currently the leader of the ICCAC in both the shot put and the weight throw, so look for him to make some noise in the field events at this year's meet.

The women's side of the meet will be headlined by the Iowa Western women who are returning district champions and are currently ranked #1 in the NJCAA. The Reivers won last year's meet by over 150 points and are going to try and keep their foot in the gas in 2022l Iowa Central, Hawkeye and Indian Hills will be fighting for the 2-4 spots in a tight race for the middle, much like it was last year. There is good talent throughout all these teams and last year all had many podium finishes and a handful of individual champions. Southeastern and Southwestern will also try to be more competitive with more depth in their lineups.
One name to look out for at this year's meet is Iowa Western's Nickisha Pryce. Pryce finished first in three races at last year's meet and is the reigning Region XI Indoor Track & Field Female Athlete of the Year. Terresha Walcott of Iowa Western has also been a stud for the Reivers and leads the ICCAC in both the 60 and 200.
Victoria Adu and Emma Seidl will be very active in the field events for Iowa Central. Adu was last year's champion in the weight throw and pole vault and will look to repeat. Seidl has the conference's best throw in shot put and will be competing with Adu for the top spot.
