ICCAC Wins Seven Events at NJCAA Championships
Iowa Central was the only ICCAC team to place in the top five in both the men's and women's national championships. But there were plenty of great individual performances turned in by athletes from across the conference.
On the women's side, the Tritons placed third, with Iowa Western coming in fourth as a team. The Reivers won the Region XI Championship but lost a lot of momentum with Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year Nickisha Pryce only competing in the 4x100 meter relay and the 400-meter prelims which hindered their overall team score.
Of all the ICCAC competitors, there were three national champions in four events. Faith Linga took both the 5000-meter run and the 10000-meter run. She also earned a runner up finish in the 1500-meter. With that, she was named the USTFCCCA Outdoor Athlete of the Year for 2021.
Iowa Central had the other two national champion performances, with Hannah Connell winning the 100-meter hurdles, setting a national meet record with a time of 13.07.
Thrower Victoria Adu beat out teammate Ashley Micheaux in the hammer throw to win first place.
Six other competitors and two relay teams earned all-american status with top three performances. Victory George (triple jump) and Dyandra Gray (400-meter hurdles) were runners up in their events for Iowa Western.
Hawkeye had a runner up result in the 4x800 meter relay.
On the men's side, Iowa Central was the only team to finish in the top 5 with a fourth place finish. Leading the way for the Tritons was Kelvin Bungei who won the 1500-meter run and the 3000-meter steeplechase. Jaheem Hayles was the other men's national champion winning the 110-meter hurdles.
Indian Hills had three all-american performances with a second place finish in the 4x800 meter relay, and a thrid place 4x100 meter relay finish. Justin Swann was third in the open 800 meter.
