Conference Competes in Forest City and Davenport
Indian Hills was the only ICCAC school that didn't compete over the weekend. Iowa Central, NIACC, Southeastern, and Southwestern were the four teams competing at Waldorf University in Forest City. Hawkeye was the lone ICCAC team competing at St. Ambrose in the "Battle In The Hive". All five schools had great finishes throuhout both events that resulted in plenty of wins and podium finishes for every school. Every school looks to build on the great performances they delivered over the weekend to ensure that they keep improving to set themselves up for conference and national meets that are quickly approaching.
Waldorf Warrick Invite
Iowa Central led the way with 14 events having Tritons claim the top spot. Both the men and women finished first in the 60m prelims, the 800m, 4X400, and High Jump. They stayed dominant in the 60m races when Odell Frye won the 60m finals with a 7.67. Daqwon Wilson finished the 60m hurdle finals in 8.58 seconds for the victory. Noah Friske was also able to deliver in the distance events when he won the 3000m by 18 seconds with a 9:01.37. The Tritons also finished well in the field events when Patience Heath won the women's long jump with a leap of 5.3m. The throwers for the Tritons turned in solid performances with Ellis Trainor winning the shot put with a throw of 15.06m, and Jarod Henderson won the weight throw with a toss that travled 16.1m.
While nobody was as dominant as Iowa Central, NIACC deliverd a great day of performances when Sarah Bertry won both the 1000m and mile run with times of 3:12.71, and 5:26.98. Distance was where NIACC proved they could compete at a high level and break through for victories in the distance medley and even took the top 3 spots in the 1000m. Titus Jackson added a victory when he was able to escape with a narrow victory when he ran the 400m in 52.21 seconds.
The Southwestern Spartans were able to claim a couple of victories for the team on Saturday themselves. Justin Cunningham ran the 60m finals in 7.04, and Southwestern was also able to prove how well they run the 200m, when they finished with three of the top four finishers.
While they didn't come away with any wins, Southeastern still competed well in Forest City. Daron Jackson jumped 12.65m to finish second, less than one and a half feet behind the champion. In the women's 200m, Jurnie Hemsley and Callie Anderson finished 4th and 5th. Hemsley also finished 3rd in the 400m.
Battle In The Hive
The Hawkeye men claimed the top spot in nine events and won the team event with 142 points. The women also delivered strong performances, they finished second in the team standings after claiming the top spot in four events. Ryann Portch and Kaylee Leicht claimed the top two spots in the women's 600m with times of 1:39.01 and 1:45.56.
The Redtails dominated this event through and through as they also finished in fourth and fifth place in the event. Hannah Payne won the 3000m in 12:19.2, barely edging out her teammate Mindi Sande, who finsihed in 12:19.44. Other wins came from the 4X400 Relay team when they won by nearly 20 seconds, and Kylee Neighbors won the high jump with a height of 1.53 meters.
The men also dominated the meet with victories coming early and often. Johannan Frost won the 60m Prelims in 7.04, then Ray Talbert got a victory of his own in the 60m Final. Hawkeye claimed the top three spots in the 200m, 400m, 600m, and had the top four finishers in the 3000m. Sam Mickelson took the mile in 4:28.21, the other mile event went to the Redtails as well when they ran the 4X400 in 3:20.81. Hawkeye didn't forget about the "field" part of track & field when they claimed the long jump as Nathan Elliot jumped 6.42m.
