Four Teams, Three Events, Full Weekend
Iowa Western and Indian Hills were in Missouri, while Iowa Central and Southwestern were participating at two different events in Kansas last the weekend. The ICCAC schools competing had some great showings highlighted with the Warriors and Reivers winning numerous events. Iowa Central and Southwestern also had solid outings between team efforts and the individual times and records set.
Herschel Neil Invite
Indian Hills was able to take the top spot in three events at the event this weekend at the Herschel Neil Invite.
Damoy Allen won the 60-meter dash in 6.77 seconds. The men's short distance runners had even more success on the day when Aurel Tchanbi ran away from the rest of the 200-meter competition when he finished in 21.65.
To round out the trio of Indian Hills wins, the Men's 4x400m relay won by over a second finishing the full mile in 3:16.27.
Iowa Western also had a great day when the team won eight events.
Tajean Houston won the men's 60-meter prelims in 8.04, and teammate Terresha Walcott took the women's 60-meter final in 7.60 seconds. The men's and women's team had balance when they were continuing the winning throughout the meet. Other track winners for Iowa Western saw Nickisha Pryce won the women's 400m in 55.39.
LeeAaron Berks finished in first in the men's 600m in 1:12.69, and Yonas Migos ran the 5000m in 15:06.34 to claim the last of the Reiver titles on the track. In the field a trio of Iowa Western Jumpers took home top spots as well. Aliyah McNeil won the women's high jump with a successful leap of 1.71 meters.
Iowa Western swept the long jump when Tyrell Johnson and Victory George had jumps of 6.94m and 5.61m, respectively.
KJCCC Invite
Iowa Central took their men's and women's team down to Pittsburg, Kan. and turned in an impressive day that culminated in the Tritons winning six different events.
The first scored even was the women's weight throw and Iowa Central got off to a great start in the team standings when Victoria Adu won the event by over half a meter when her last attempt traveled 19.61m.
Hannah Connell took the victories in both the preliminaries and finals of the 60-meter hurdles. 8.61 in the prelims was good enough for the fastest time all day until she ran an 8.42 in the finals and beat her own record on the day.
The domination in the hurdles continued when Jaheem Hayles won the prelims in 8.01 with teammate Dashinelle Dyer finishing right behind him at 8.12. They switched spots in the finals when Dyer ran a 7.94 and Hayles ran in 7.96.
Lee Eppie was outstanding in the 400-meter dash when he ran away from the rest of the field and won by almost a second with his 47.96 finish.
Just like the start of the meet, Iowa Central was also the last team to finish with a win. The Men's Distance Medley with members consisting of Robin Aguilar Gonzalez, Franklin Scott, Cassius Hais, and Pur Biel finished the medley in 10:23.78.
Washburn Open
Another ICCAC school competing in Kansas was the Southwestern Spartans taking their talent to Topeka for the Washburn Open.
Fane Sauvakacolo kept her impressive season up when she finished eighth in the Long Jump section of the Pentathlon. Her jump of 4.78m was less than half a meter off the first-place finisher and helped her to eclipse the 500-point threshold by the fourth event.
She was the only Spartan to finish in the top-10 in any event.
