2020 ICCAC Indoor Track & Field Awards Announced
After their 15th Indoor Regional Championship, Iowa Central took home the 2019-20 Special Awards, sweeping the Coach, Male and Female Athlete of the Year Awards.
Courtney Lindsey was voted as the Male Athlete of the Year. After coming in second in last year's vote, the sophomore had a stellar indoor season. The sprinter competed in the 60 meter dash, the 200 meters and the 4x400 meter relay. He set Region XI records in the 60 meters, breaking his record he set last year by .01 seconds at 6.64. Lindsey was also the region champion in the 200 m. Currently, he is ranked #2 in the 60 meter, #4 in the 200 meters and the 4x400 team is ranked 5th.
The Female Athlete of the Year was given to Lea Grady. For the second straight year, an Iowa Central thrower was recognized as the region's top female performer. Grady, the nation's No. 1 weigh thrower, won the event at the Region XI Championships. She set the Region XI meet record with a distance of 61'9".
Additionally, she is No. 2 in the country in the shot put. Grady set another Region XI record in the shot put with a throw of 51'9".
Lastly, the Coach of the Year award went to Iowa Central's Jordan Burkholder. In this third season, Burkholder helped lead the Tritons to their 15th consecutive Indoor Track & Field Championship for both men and women. The Tritons 14 region champions on the men's side and 13 on the women's, with 69 total All-Region performers between both teams.
As for the rest of the All-Region performers, Iowa Western had the second most All-Region performances with 23 (13 women, 10 men). They were led by five champions, including Shawn Kiptoo and Christine Irving. Kiptoo won the men's mile and men's 5000 meters. Irving was the women's 200 and 400 meter champion.
Elijah Berry headlined the Indian Hills team. He set two school records in the 600 meters (1:20.81) and was on the 4x800 team that won the region with a 8:01.65 time, Berry ran a 1:55 split. Tracy Gates won the men's triple jump for the Warriors as well.
Hawkeye finished with seven All-Region performances including the women's pentathlon champion, Acey Jellison.
NIACC had six All-Region finishers, rounding out the group.
