Region's 11 Best Named for 2022 DI Men's Soccer
The Division I Men's Soccer All-Region teams were released on Wednesday after another competitive season in Region 11.
The regular season champions Iowa Western Reivers were represented by the most players on this year's teams, however, Indian Hills' Daniele Verdirosi took home the league's highest honor.
Verdirosi powered Indian Hills all season and was the ICCAC's top scorer in 2022. The 2022 Division I Men's Soccer Player of the Year led all players with 19 goals -- good for fourth-most in the NJCAA Division I. During the year Verdirosi had stretches of a five-match goal streak and four-match goal streak. Highlighted by a hat trick against Iowa Lakes on Sept. 25, he had four multi-goal games.
He scored in both Region 11 Tournament games on their way to a Region 11 Championship. Verdirosi added eight assists to his 2022 resume -- and is the first Warrior since Akean Shackleford (2017) to win Player of the Year.
The 2022 Coach of the Year award was handed to Mike Brown of Iowa Western. The Reivers, coming off a 2021 NJCAA National Championship, held a No. 1 or No. 2 ranking throughout the season. The Reivers only losses during their 16-2-1 season to date came at Marshalltown during the regular season, and versus Indian Hills in the Region 11 final.
From Mike Brown's team, four players were named to the First Team. Last year's Player of the Year Luka Nedic returned to this year's list. Nedic has a goal and assist and was a game-controlling player again this season from the midfield.
Also from the Reiver midfield is Edoardo Deglinnocenti. The Italian has four goals and one assist in his sophomore season at Iowa Western.
Ibrahim Conde leads IWCC in points this season with seven goals and seven assists. He is the only other returning First Team selection in 2022 besides Nedic.
Finishing off the Iowa Western selections in 2022 to First Team was defensemen Jesus De Vicente who has five goals and four assists heading into the National Tournament.
Verdirosi was joined by two teammates -- Ron Becker, the 2022 Region 11 Tournament MVP, and midfielder, Pedro Amancio. Becker had seven goals and a league-leading 11 assists. Amancio finished the season with one goal and four assists.
Iowa Lakes had two selections this year -- defensemen Lewis Nohar and goalkeeper Taariq Ganga. Nohar had six goals and six assists. Ganga had a goals-allowed average of 1.21.
Finishing out the First Team, Iowa Central and Marshalltown each earned one selection.
The Tritons placed Federico Bellintende on the list -- a stout center back -- and the Tigers' Lincoln Borges earned the honors.
