Region XI Boasts Division I Men's Soccer Top Performers
The ICCAC posted the Division I Men's Soccer All-Region selections on Wednesday. Each school received their allotments based on how they finished in the conference standings.
Iowa Western received the most selections after winning the Region XI regular season title with a record of 7-0-1. With that, the Reivers earned four selections.
Leading off for Iowa Western was midfielder Luka Nedic. Touted as the team's best talent, Nedic led the Iowa Western defense that allowed just six goals all year.
Nedic, who scored one goal, was the leader of the Reivers and chosen as the 2021 ICCAC Division I Men's Soccer Player of the Year.
Anchoring Iowa Western's solid defense, goalkeeper Yuta Ishizuka led the ICCAC in save percentage at .903 which also puts him at fifth overall on the NJCAA leaderboard. He is also undefeated when in the net this year at a perfect 13-0 and has only allowed three goals the entire season.
Defender Moise Bombito joined the First Team selections for the Reivers. Bombito was the compliment to Nedic on defense. A more offensive accomplished player this season, he netted four goals from the back line.
The fourth Reiver selected this year was Ibrahim Conde. This is Conde's second selection to the Division I Men's All-Region team, and he picked up where he left off last season. Conde was second in ICCAC Division I in assists with nine and fourth in goals with 12.
Iowa Lakes had two midfielders and a defender selected to the First Team this year.
Sofian Maghouz, now a two-time First Team All-Region selection, leads the team in goals this year with nine along with eleven assists.
Defenseman Logan Roach was placed on the team as well. The sophomore scored eight goals and three assists to provide some offense as well. Defensively, the Lakers allow less than a goal per game on average.
The team's third selection went to Leonardo Seixas. The midfielder scored eight goals and had six assists as well. During one stretch this season, he recorded a goal in four-straight games, five total during that stretch.
The ICCAC Division I Men's Soccer Coach of the Year award was given to Iowa Lakes' Ben MacRae. The Lakers were 6-1-1 in the conference table, and reached both the Region XI and Midwest District Championship. This year, the Lakers won the District and advanced to the national tournament as the No. 5 seed.
Forwards Gabriel Dias and Jhancarlo Palma were selected to the First Team this year for Marshalltown.
Diaz provided six goals for Marshalltown and was also selected as an athlete of the week this year for his impressive play. Palma, the freshman from Venezuela, also added two goals himself this season.
Lucas Hazi Pollachi from Iowa Central earned his second First Team All-Region selection this year for his outstanding offensive leadership for the Tritons. Lucas netted 10 goals this season and led his team assists as well with seven on the year.
Indian Hills also had one player selected this year. A transfer from NJCAA Division III, forward Pablo Marquez was a first class goal scorer this year with two hat tricks and thirteen goals which ties him for first in the division. The offensive threat also had five assists and was tied for second in the division in points at 31.
