ICCAC Division II Soccer Hands Out Hardware
The Division II Men's Soccer All-Region selections were released on Wednesday and leading the way in the selections this year was first-place finisher, Hawkeye with four selections. Southeastern was second with three of their own.
The first of the selections from Hawkeye were a pair of forwards, Tbo Sotoyinbo and Joe Farlow. Both players were selected this year as a Division II Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week award for their outstanding performance on the pitch. Sotoyinbo led the team in goals scored with 10 which places him at third in the conference in Division II.
Farlow contributed seven goals this season, putting him fifth in the league in goals scored.
Two defenders rounded out the selections from Hawkeye. Brandon Savage was also selected this year as Division II Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week for being a versatile defender and facilitator on the field. Savage netted five goals himself this year and led the Division II league in assists with eleven.
The final player to be selected to the First Team from Hawkeye is Alex Harris. Harris had five goals this season, with four of them coming in conference play. The sophomore was also tied for eighth in the conference in assists with five.
Hawkeye's head coach, Leo Driscoll, was tagged with ICCAC Division II Men's Soccer Coach of the Year honors after a 9-1 record in conference and a No. 1 seed in the Region XI Tournament. The RedTails won the regular season crown for the first time in school history -- their second season at the Division II level.
Southeastern's Jimson St. Louis was selected to the First Team for his explosive goal scoring skills. Named the ICCAC Division II Men's Soccer Player of the Year Jimson has scored 23 goals this season, the most in the conference and fifth in all of Division II. The freshman was very impressive in his two games at NIACC where he scored four goals in each of the two games. He was also selected three times as the Athlete of the Week in Division II Men's Soccer.
St. Louis has been effective down the stretch and in the postseason. He has scored in five straight games heading into the national tournament. The Blackhawks are the defending NJCAA Division II Men's Soccer Champions.
Also, from Southeastern are midfielder Ryuga Uchigashima and defender Yohan Bernard. The pair of freshmen provided a strong supplement to St. Louis' goal scoring, providing five goals each this season.
Joining the All-Region First Team from NIACC are Giovani Lima Soares and Nathan Skeete. The midfielders were key players for the Trojans this season providing support on both offense and defense. They combined to score eleven goals and nine assists.
Northeast placed Paul Einero and Chad Le Roux.
Einero was an efficient goal scorer this year and was second in the ICCAC with 14 goals this season. Le Roux was also a staple on the defensive side for the Hawks all season.
Scott and Dakota County round out our list with their selections Lee Donnellan and Logan Clendenen respectively. The two freshmen played key roles on the defensive side of the pitch and were both bright spots for their respective teams.
