Men's Soccer All-Americans Announced for Spring Season
NJCAA completed their Spring 2021 season as the last sport to finish their championship tournaments. The ICCAC had two men's soccer teams complete in the championship games, with Southeastern winning the NJCAA's first-ever Division II national title, and Iowa Western getting clipped in overtime, 2-1, finishing as the runner up.
Despite the coming up just short, Iowa Western had two players recognized as First Team All-Americans.
The ICCAC Division I Men's Soccer Player of the Year Giorgio Probo and Revier goalkeeper Patrick Millard were the Reivers' two selections.
Probo, a freshman from Bergamo, Italy, was Iowa Western's top playmaker in the midfield. He controlled the pace of the game, and finished the season with three goals and six assists.
Millard, also a freshman, hails from Australia, started 19 games this season and allowed just seven goals. His games and minutes played were tops in the NJCAA this season, while his .39 goal-against average was sixth best. He made 41 saves, had an .854 save percentage while accumulating 13 wins and collecting eight shutouts.
The other ICCAC player to join Probo and Millard as All-Americans was Marshalltown's Guilherme Pereira. A sophomore, Pereira achieved a second-straight season of All-American status, this time a Second Team selection. He scored six goals and added four assists for 16 points in 12 games played in the spring. For his career, Pereira finished with 17 goals and six assists.
ICCAC Division II Men's Soccer saw five placed on the three All-American teams, including three players from the national champion Blackhawks.
Bart Muns, ICCAC Division II Men's Soccer Player of the Year, and Jotaro Mano were identified as First Team All-Americans. Muns was tied for first as the nation's leading goal-scorer with 19 goals. He led the country with 47 points after adding nine assists. Often clutch, particularly in postseason, Muns connected on four game-winning goals this season and came up with big goals in big spots during the district tournament.
Mano complimented Muns with two goals and nine assists. His assist total was eighth-best in the country.
Jimson St. Louis was the third Blackhawk selected and named to the Third Team. St. Louis was the team's second-leading scorer with 30 points on the season, seventh most in Division II. He netted 11 goals and added eight assists.
Northeast's Hugo Santos was a Second Team selection. Santos scored 16 goals this season, trailing only Muns in the ICCAC standings and tied for second in the country with Prairie State's Antonio Leal. He had the third-most points with 40 after adding eight assists.
Rounding out the Spring 2021 selections from the ICCAC was Hawkeye's Keith Gakaka. Gakaka tied for a team-lead in goals with 11 and had two assists while helping lead the RedTails to the Region XI Championship game.
